Position Battles Heading into the Preseason

Jason Snelling (#44), rushed for 613 yards on 142 carries and four touchdowns last season in his little playing time.

Vsndaily.com, Hibachi- Heading into the 2010 preseason, a few questions are on the minds of every Atlanta Falcon fan. First of all, who will be Michael Turner's (the clear cut starting running back) backup? Will it be the speedy and elusive, although injury prone, Jerious Norwood? Or will it be the big bruiser who shined last season Jason Snelling?

Depending on how they play in the four preseason games, one of them will be chosen, and will get quite a bit of carries this season. Michael Turner is an excellent halfback, one of the best in the NFL, but he can't do it alone. My pick is on Jason Snelling, as he has great vision and a knack for hitting holes.

Secondly, who will be the starting cornerback opposite Dunta Robinson? Both young Brent Grimes and the veteran Brian Williams are more than capable for the job. Grimes, who started a few games last year, never really gave up any home runs, and certainly has a lot of potential. He's my pick, but predicting the NFL is a very hard, virtually impossible task. You could even throw in second year player Chris Owens. He hasn't ever played much, but it is obvious he is very talented.

Two of the three starting linebackers are already set in stone, inside Curtis Lofton and left outside Mike Peterson. The third position, however, is definitely up for grabs. Rookie Sean Weatherspoon had great combine measurables, and he played excellent in training camp. However, Stephen Nicholas seems to be just as good, so it will be a daunting task for both of them.

At most positions, the starter is already determined, like quarterback. However, the ones we highlighted in this article are well up for grabs. It will definitely be a dog-fight (not the Michael Vick kind), and we will see this young men play their hearts out in an effort to aid the team as greatly as possible.
