-Realistic trades. No removing superstars who would not be traded. (i.e. Crosby off Penguins)
-Players in Free Agency are free to be signed.

Tampa Bay – Adding assets like Simon Gagne and Dan Ellis to the line up won’t help remove the pressure of competing this season for the Tampa Bay Lightning, who missed the playoffs last year despite having the leagues top goal scorer. And with Steven Stamkos’ entry level contract coming to an end after this season, the Lightning have more on their mind then just winning this year. They will also have to find the space to keep their star player on the roster.

Tampa Bay will be able to enter into negotiations with Gagne come the end of the season and hopefully keep the talented player on their roster and a solid fixture on the Stamkos line and power play.

Lightning front office believe this is the year to make the run for the Cup. “We have added to our defence, we have a solid core of young and old, and we have added depth.” But in a division the hosts one of the leagues top scoring and offensive minded teams in Washington, is there a way for the Lightning to sneak through?

Sources inside the team say yes, and that they see the Southeast division as fairly weak, with Atlanta going through rebuilding, and Carolina battling injuries to key players. “We feel confident in this group. We think we have a real shot this year.”

On the backs of everyone’s mind in Tampa is the status of long time captain and former first round pick Vincent Lecavalier and his fate in Tampa. He is currently not being actively shopped, and could remain on the team, depending on the path in which the team takes. “We would love to keep Vinny on the team, but in the end, we have to do what is best for us, and best for him. If it means he stays, they great, and if it means he moves, well, we will come to that if it happens.”

Tampa opens their season up on October 9th.

Lightning a Feature Team
September 19, 2010

Tampa Bay – Lightning fans will be pleased to note that every game the Lightning take to the ice will be available on TV this season, as Tampa Bay has been announced as main headliner on both Versus and Hockey Night in Canada this season, as well as being showcased on the NHL Network. In total,

In total 32 games will be shown this season between Versus and Hockey Night in Canada, with the other 50 games being shown on NHL Network. Action will get underway on Hockey Night in Canada as Tampa takes on Atlanta. HNIC will also showcase match ups against San Jose, Buffalo, Vancouver and Ottawa. Versus will see big match ups with stars like Crosby and Ovechkin as well as the Stanley Cup champions Chicago Blackhawks.

Both networks are excited to see Tampa Bay in their line up as they look to extend their coverage. CBC officials say Tampa is selected because of a heavy Canadian presence on the team.
