    Virginia Tech's Traditions
    Blacksburg, VA - June 29, 2011
The Highty Tighties, Virginia Tech's regimental band, leads the football team during their pre-game walk. The Hokies cadets also march onto the field for pre-game ceremonies. Skipper, the Hokies' cannon, is fired during pregame and after every Virginia Tech score. Before the Hokies take the field the cheerleaders start a "Let's Go" and "Hokies" chant with the east and west stands, afterwards, "Enter Sandman" by Metallica plays and all the students start going crazy, along with the Hokie Nation. When the Hokies run out of the tunnel, they touch a Hokie Stone which is special to the area of Blacksburg. When the Hokies take the field, the defensive captain carries the lunch pail with him, which resembles the tough Hokies defense, and the other captains hoist flags as they run onto the field. When the opposing teams have the ball on third down, Tech fans will take out there keys and shake them for the "key play." These are just some of the many great traditions with Virginia Tech football.

The Hokies lunch pail is the signature of the defense and a great tradition in Blacksburg.
