LSU to Open Season versus Oregon

The Bayou Bengals start their tough schedule against the #5 team in the country. This LSU team is talented, but have underachieved in the past few years due to inconsistent QB play. Senior Jordan Jefferson is the starting QB for the 3rd straight year and he has shown signs of being a good QB. There are also times where Jefferson looks lost on the field. Jefferson has had one of the best off-seasons he has had while at LSU. New OC Steve Kragthorpe has come and immediately began work on Jefferson. Working on his mechanics was the primary thing Kragthorpe wanted to do with Jefferson. Let's hope all of the hard work shows dramatic improvement against this early season test. The defense has been the only consistent thing about LSU since DC John Chavis joined. The talent on the LSU Defense might be better than last season even though they no longer have All-World CB Patrick Peterson. The Secondary is still a strength with that loss. The D Line is young and extremely talented. A lot of young guys will be in starting roles and making a strong impact in stopping Oregon's Option attack. If LSU can bottle up Oregon's offense and get a little success out of it's own offense then LSU should come up with a victory against the Ducks

LSU Dominates Oregon as LaMichael James gets hurt

The LSU Tiger came into this game hyped up from an offseason of people doubting their ability. The Oregon offense was supposed to be too explosive for them. LSU came out with a fire to prove everyone wrong. The Offense came out a little out of sync and were forced to go 3 and out. The Tigers needed Jordan Jefferson confident enough to move the ball. Oregon's "explosive offense hit the field and were met with the incredibly speedy defense of the Tigers. 3 straight running plays were stopped in the backfield. Oregon punts the ball and LSU drives down the field into the redzone. Jefferson looked good on this drive as he was hitting all of his passes. Jefferson was making a pass into the endzone that ended up in the hands of Oregon's Safety. It wasn't a bad pass, it was more of a damn good play by the safety. Oregon again tried their option attack and were stuffed. Oregon wasn't moving the ball on this LSU defense. The next LSU drive was a perfect mixture of run and pass. The drive was capped off by a beautiful Read Option to Spencer Ware that would get him into the endzone untouched from 23 yards out. This drive would set the tone for the LSU offense for the rest of the game. Once LSU got the lead they would do nothing but add to it for the rest of the game. LSU's stingy run D made Darron Thomas start to pass. Unfortunately for Oregon those passes were ending up in the hands of LSU defenders. One of Thomas's leading Receivers was All-SEC CB Morris Claiborne who snagged 3 INTs in the game. Oregon wouldn't sniff the Tiger side of the field until the 4th quarter where Darron Thomas used his legs to eventually get into the endzone.

                    LSU Dominates Unnamed FCS Team

LSU coming off of their strong win against Oregon steam rolled through their game against FCS West. The team had no chance in this one. The defense started off shaky allowing FCS to score on their opening drive, but the Offense was the star. The speed advantage LSU had on offense proved to be way too much for the FCS team. Russell Shepard was just too fast. Whenever he got his hands on the ball it was in danger of reaching the endzone. He manged to score in 3 different ways(receiving, punt return, and kick return). This game was the type of confidence booster Jordan Jefferson needed. He had a record setting performance by throwing 6 touchdowns. TE Deangelo Peterson was on the receiving end of half those TD passes. Rueben Randle was not left out of the party as he managed to haul in a last second Hailmary as time was ticking down at the end of the 1st half. This strong performance is what the Tigers need to keep their momentum going as SEC play draws near.

Big 4th Quarter keeps the Bulldogs at Bay

Jordan Jefferson coming off the biggest game of his career was confident in his teams ability to win their conference opener against the Bulldogs of Mississippi State. He must have forgotten how difficult playing in the SEC must be. The stout defenses are nothing to joke about. Mississippi State was fired up and they came out with a little extra at the beginning of this game. LSU wanted to pund the ball and make life easier for Jefferson. The Bulldogs had different plans. They would not allow any type of running game to form. They felt forcing Jefferson to pass would give them their best chance at victory. This proved to be correct as Jefferson would keep the Bulldogs close with some unfortunate passes that would end up to be turnovers. Luckily for Jefferson he has one of the strongest defenses to hide his faults. The defense would always have pressure and make life for Chris Relf a living hell. Whenever Jefferson threw a pick the defense would just take the ball right back. Once the 4th quarter came around the defense must have gotten sick of the game being close and took matters into their own hand. Safety turned MLB Karnell Hatcher intercepted a pass and brought it to the house with less than 4 minutes on the clock. From then on the Bulldogs were dejected and could not make any sort of comeback. Next week the Tigers travel to Morgantown to play the Mountaineers of West Virginia.
