[NCAA FB] Men Of Steel: Birmingham University Steelers (Team Builder NCAA 14)

BIRMINGHAM UNIVERSITY ANNOUNCES FBS ATHLETIC PROGRAM

Birmingham,AL - It Became official earlier today Birmingham University will begin play in the FCS this fall. After spending the past 2 years preparing for the move Birmingham is ready. Instead of going under the umbrella of the UA (University of Alabama) system Birmingham University's board of trustees decided to branch out on there own and build the program up with their own funding and alumni contributions. "We are excited that this day is finally here. The support from the community and and alumni has been overwhelming and the future looks very bright." said Barry Mills, one of the trustees. Birmingham will begin this season as an independent and look to jump Conference USA the following season.

Birmingham University, known as the Steelers is located on the Westside of Birmingham, AL. Birmingham's growth during the period from 1881 through 1920 earned its nicknames The Magic City and The Pittsburgh of the South. Much like Pittsburgh, Birmingham's major industries were iron and steel production. Thus the name Steelers. " Our athletic program is just like our cities history, blue collar hard working type that give their all." stated John Hines trustee.

Athletic Director Mitzi Jackson will be unveiling the teams logos and jerseys tomorrow during the opening ceremonies of the teams new stadium and we will all get to meet Birmingham's first head coach. "Tomorrow will be full of fun and excitement as we begin a new chapter here at Birmingham University." stated Jackson.

We will have full coverage of tomorrow's events here at the Steeler's Sports network

    President Kerney Thomas-

Under the leadership of A.D. Mitzi Jackson I feel the skies the limit for our athletic program. I will let Mr. Jackson comment more on the future of our Athletic Program."

    Mitzi Jackson-
"Thank You President Thomas. The BU Athletic Program will be one of Pride, Tradition, Strength, & Honor. When you put on that Black and Yellow uniform you will not only represent this University but yourself as well. Our athletes will be students first, pillars in the community, & set the standards of what a student athlete is. The Steeler Athletic program will consist of:

Throughout the year we will support each program with necessary funding and support to help them become the ultimate contender year in and year out. How will you recognize when the Steelers are coming or when you are in Steeler country you ask? Look no further than the New Birmingham Steelers logo!

"The Steelers logo takes what has made this city great, the steel industry, and forged a symbol of power, hard work, & dedication. Make no mistake when you see this logo you will know that you are about to get and all out 100% effort from us." This year football will be the first to plunge into FBS competition. When we take the field just like our logo we want people to know we come to work and are all business. I present to you the 2013 Birmingham Steelers Uniforms

"As you all can see we have a modern design that is not to over the top. We wanted to keep it somewhat simple but new age. Hopefully this will attract some nice recruits to go along with the schools strong academic prestige. What is having a pretty car if there is no one to drive it? We have had our search committee interviewing candidates for our head coaching job and we feel we have found our man. He is a disciplinarian and a dedicated hard working coach. He fits the ideals and philosophy of what we want to do here at BU. Without further ado Id like to welcome Coach Sylvester Campbell."

    Coach Campbell-
"Thank you, it is an honor to be here and an honor to be named head coach here at BU. To President Thomas, A.D. Jackson, Alumni, and the media I thank you. Many of you know me from my coaching career here in Alabama on the High School level and my success. The same winning tradition I brought to that level I look to bring to BU. I can't do it alone. It will take a concentrated effort from all of us here to keeps these kids heads on the right path. Sports creates leaders, develops character and it is up to use to push these kids in the right direction."

    A.D. Jackson
"The floor is open to the media for a few questions."

    AP
"Coach you have an impressive resume. In 5 years at Ensley High School you posted a 70-6 record and won 3 out 5 state titles. How do you plan to transition that winning success to BU?"

    Coach Campbell
" We will use the same model that I have gone by my entire career and that is dish out pure punishment for 4 quarters. We will be the best conditioned, strongest, and most disciplined team you have ever seen. By the time we reach the 4th quarter we will have worn down the opponent."

    AP
" Coach what style of offense do you plan in run? Will we see the smash mouth brand you are known for?"

    CC
" Right now we are finalizing the coaching staff and have our recruiting coordinators out on the trail. Once we get an idea of what caliber of players we have then we proceed in putting the offensive game plan in motion."

    AP
"There are rumors that at least 3 of your top former players upon graduating will be attending BU this fall." Any truth to that?"

    CC
" I will say we have recruited that area and the recruiting coordinators have been in touch with schools in the area."

    AP
"Coach what about the students already on campus." Will you have open try outs?"

    CC
" Yes of course. Try outs will begin soon and we look to start fall practice with a full roster come August."

    AP
" Coach what are you expectations for the season?"

    CC
" This is a new program and we understand that, but we also expect 100% from all that participate. NO EXCUSES. We will put on the field the best 22 players and get after people."

    A.D. Jackson
"That is all for now Coach has some other meeting to attend thank you for your time."

            BIRMINGHAM STEELERS PRACTICES BEGIN

Birmingham, AL - Try outs completed, eligibility verified, equipment issued. History was made today as Birmingham University took the field for there first official FBS football practice ever. The players and coaches were eager to take the field and show what they could do. "It felt great to finally get out on the field and get to work." Stated QB Bryce Rivers. Rivers a sophomore at BU was a *** star quarterback coming out of high school but decided to focus on academics going into college. What changed his mind? "I thought it was out of my system and I was ready to concentrate on my academics but football is in my blood and when I saw the chance to become a part of history I decided to give it another go." The team is full of former high school players that are trying to rekindle that pigskin fire. "We have a lot of young guys out here that have been away from the game for up to 3 years that are trying to shake the rust off." said Coach Campbell. When asked about how they will decide on the starters Coach Campbell said, "every position is open. No one is a starter. This is an open competition for all positions and the best 22 will line up on the field." The Steelers did get some good news on the recruiting front as two solid players that the coaching staff were eying reported to fall practice.

            Running back

            Cierre Kaufman

            Strong Safety

            Chad Kamari

Both players hail from the same high school and many believe have the potential to become All-Americans. "Both Cierre and Chad are very talented and were high on our list of priorities. They both possess a unique skill set that we feel will work well in our system." Practice continues later this evening as the Steelers prepare for the upcoming season.

              STEELERS HOLD FULL SCRIMMAGE.
FANS GET FIRST LOOK AT THE TEAM IN ACTION

              BLACK 24

              WHITE 13

Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham University Steelers held their full team scrimmage today. This was the public's first time seeing the team in action. The team looks to be coming along well. There were some miscues but all in all a solid scrimmage. The plays consisted of a wild array of plays. From the smash mouth to some spread formations. The offensive playbook looks to be wide open. "We have a very complicated playbook. It requires a lot of studying. Let's just say it prepares you for the next level." said coach Campbell. From a defensive point of view there were some glaring holes that definitely need addressing. The front line is young and are going to have to find consistency. The linebackers had coaches in there faces constantly addressing missed assignments. "The line and linebackers have got to do better. We are not going to win with play like this." said D-coordinator Conley Langford. The highlights of the scrimmage came from true freshmen Cierre Kaufman and Chad Kamari. Both seemed as if they were in mid season form. "Those two guys did some good things. I think with continued work they will be great players." said Coach Campbell.

              Cierre Kaufman 12 car 78 yards 2tds

              Chad Kamari 7 tackles 3 pass break-ups
