                2014 Season Preview

The Los Angeles Aftershocks relocated from Minnesota after having won Super Bowl XLVIII, and will have the most lofty expectations in the league. During the offseason, they shipped away Jerome Simpson to the Colts along with a couple of draft picks to move up to the fifth pick overall, where they took Edward Varley out of Colorado State. They also added Brandon Browner through free agency, and have the best running back in football in Adrian Peterson.

                  Week 1 Game Recap

LOS ANGELES, CA -- I don't think the NFL thought they were getting this kind of reception coming back to Los Angeles, as it was louder than ever. The home team, the newly named Aftershocks, played extremely well in front of their new crowd, getting a huge day from their offense, highlighted by Adrian Peterson, and a pick-six from franchise-tagged linebacker Desmond Bishop in a 37-20 victory over the Detroit Lions.

"This was one of the better crowds I've ever played for. I hope my time in Los Angeles is very long," said coach Leslie Frazier.

Peterson ran for 217 yards and two scores, but maybe the highlight of the day was a 59-yard third quarter touchdown pass from Matt Cassel to Edward Varley. The catch marked Varley's first career touchdown reception. New acquisition Brandon Browner chipped in with four tackles and a sack that injured Lions quarterback Matt Stafford. Stafford will have to sit and watch backup Derek Anderson lead the offense for the next seven weeks, missing six games. Matt Cassel threw for 201 yards and a touchdown, and was not intercepted. The Lions defense only generated one sack, and did not force a turnover.

                    Week 2 Game Recap

GREEN BAY, WI -- The Packers found out early that they were going to have no shot at beating the Los Angeles Aftershocks on Sunday.

"The ball seemed like it was moving in slow motion, those interceptions just came," said cornerback Brandon Browner, who pulled in two picks, one of which came in the end zone, to help the Aftershocks pull in a 47-14 rout of the Packers. Matt Cassel had a solid game under center, completing 19 passes for 261 yards and four scores. Adrian Peterson ran the ball 27 times and found the end zone once. The defense was able to intercept Aaron Rodgers three times, including the two from Browner, and got to him for sacks seven times.

                        Week 3 Game Recap

LOS ANGELES, CA -- "This was the kind of game that you pull the tape from after huge losses just to regain confidence in how dominating you can be."

These were coach Leslie Frazier's words to the press after his Aftershocks pulled out a 56-20 win over the rival Chicago Bears. Adrian Peterson ran wild as usual, going for 217 yards and punching in two scores. Matt Cassel surprised everyone in the stadium with two goal line dives for touchdowns, and throwing successfully for the end zone four more times.

When you look at the score after the game, it's hard to believe that Los Angeles was actually losing this game at one point early on. They didn't really turn on the rout until the second quarter, but when it hit, it hit hard.

Late in the fourth quarter, a play sealed it that just about defined the game and the Bears' season. Jay Cutler tried to throw to receiver Alshon Jeffery. It looked like a catch at first, until Chris Cook knocked it loose and it fell into the hands of a waiting Jared Allen for an interception.

"Kinda feels like a story of my life moment," said Cutler after the game.

                              Week 5 Game Recap

ATLANTA, GA -- The Aftershocks barely escaped the Georgia Dome on Sunday with a win, and it wasn't pretty.

"We can't just step up the last quarter, we have to play the full four quarters each game and play them well. We got lucky today that our offense could bail us out though, and at this point I'm pretty confident that they can do just about anything," said linebacker Chad Greenway, who chipped in three tackles.

He was definitely right about the lack of solid defensive play, as Los Angeles was letting Matt Ryan complete passes left and right. They failed to force a turnover. The offense looked like it could've been in control, though, as they were in a position to tie up the game in the first half before Kyle Rudolph fumbled while getting tackled.

"I can't make mistakes like that going forward. That cost us a possession there, and every point counted today," said Rudolph after the game.

The Aftershocks' offense got a chance to come back late in the game, and they took advantage. Matt Cassel heaved a 49-yard score to Edward Varley with just under five minutes to play. Then after the defense was able to come up with a huge stop. Blair Walsh hit a 53-yard go ahead field goal just outside the two minute warning. The defense was able to make one last stop as the Falcons couldn't muster anything on offense after they lost the lead.

Los Angeles fans got a scare back at home when Josh Robinson went down in the second quarter. However, Robinson has been cleared to play next week.

                                Week 6 Game Recap

LOS ANGELES, CA -- "It was a bit scary at first. We weren't getting much going, or stopping much early, but we found our way back into it and pulled out a win that I think showed some resiliency."

This was Aftershocks coach Leslie Frazier after a weird game in which Adrian Peterson got outrushed(though still had a marvelous game), Drew Brees was outthrown, and Los Angeles got a 30-20 win over the Saints. Peterson, as Frazier said, couldn't get going early in the game, and his first ten carries only yielded 21 yards, a cause for concern among Aftershocks fans, as usually he comes in and puts up big numbers early. With his relative lack of production, though, Los Angeles turned two screen plays into touchdowns in the second quarter that spread out the defense and allowed the former MVP to begin doing work on the ground. The Aftershocks never looked back from there.

Matt Cassel had a big game as well, throwing for 253 yards and three scores, two to Peterson and the other to Edward Varley, while only throwing one interception. Josh Robinson had an interception near the end zone with time running down late in the game to seal it.
