Warriors defeat #24 Alabama in season opener
Colt Brennan throws for 502 yards and 3 touchdowns to lead Hawai'i to the upset victory
Tuscaloosa, AL -- The Hawai'i Warriors made some noise on College Football's opening weekend, with an impressive 27-17 win over #24 Alabama at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
Their high powered Run-and-Shoot offense was firing on all cylinders thanks to the impressive play by quarterback Colt Brennan. He finished just 13 yards shy of his career high for passing yards with 502 and added 3 touchdowns, which included a 65-yard bomb to Davone Bess on the first play of the fourth quarter to give the Warriors a ten point cushion.
With so many weapons at his disposal, Brennan and the Hawai'i offense will give nearly every defensive coordinator they face this season fits in the week leading up to their match up. Three different receivers eclipsed the 100-yard mark and caught a touchdown pass. Bess led the way with 10 receptions for 178 yards and the aforementioned touchdown. Ryan Grice-Mullen added 8 catches for 110 yards, Jason Rivers racked up 142 yards and a touchdown on 7 receptions, and Ross Dickerson added 67 yards and a score of his own.
As a team Hawai'i recorded 501 yards of total offense and looked like the higher ranked team from start to finish. #24 Alabama struggled offensively, garnering just 237 yards, while going 1-for-11 on third down conversions. They relied heavily on senior running back Chris Ingram, who rushed for 173 yards and 2 touchdowns. Sophomore quarterback Kyle Church completed just 4-of-15 pass attempts for a mere 49 yards and threw two costly interceptions.
"I'm very confident in this team," June Jones said after the game. "We proved we can hang with the big boys of the SEC, and I believe this is just the beginning of an amazing season.
Head coach June Jones continued his impressive turn around at the University of Hawai'i, improving his career record to 54-37. Hawai'i put together an abysmal 12-37 record in the five seasons leading up to his hire.

Warriors win home opener over UNLV
Davone Bess' record-setting performance leads Hawai'i to their second straight win
Honolulu, HI -- Davone Bess put together a performance for the ages, setting the school record for receptions in a game, to lead Hawai'i to an impressive 51-21 victory over UNLV in their home opener.
Bess finished with 13 receptions for 171 yards and 2 touchdowns, his second straight game with at least 170 yards and a score.
"He was unstoppable," said Hawai'i quarterback Colt Brennan. Every time I looked his way he managed to get himself wide open. I'm having the time of my life playing in this offense.
Brennan had another solid outing throwing for 362 yards and 5 touchdowns. Running back Nate Ilaoa added a season-high 65 yards on the ground and scored his first touchdown of the year.
Hawai'i took control of the game early, jumping out to a 21-0 first quarter lead thanks to three passing touchdowns by Brennan. Linebacker Adam Leonard forced a fumble at the start of the second quarter, leading to another Warrior score. One of three field goals by kicker Dan Kelly right before the half gave Hawai'i a 31-0 lead at the break.
Their offense did such a tremendous job that it's easy to overlook the dominating performance by their defensive unit. They held UNLV scoreless until there was :47 seconds left in the second quarter, and only allowed 107 yards of offense, most of which came on the final drive of the first half.

I still have my Colt Brennan Warriors jersey from highschool.
And man, looking at all these pics just despesses me that we don’t get any new NCAA games. AND the immersion in this mode shits all over what we have in Madden these days. PS2 era football games were legitimately better than they are today, other than the graphics obviously.

Defense steps up in win over Boise State

Boise, ID -- After their high-powered offense led them to huge wins over Alabama and UNLV, it was their defense that stepped up when they needed it most, as Hawai'i defeated Boise State 35-28 in a battle of the top dogs in the WAC.
The Warriors held Boise State scoreless in the fourth quarter, and forced four second half turnovers to help turn the tide of the game. Linebacker C.J. Allen-Jones was named player of the game after leading the team with 5 tackles and 2 forced fumbles.
They also overcame adversity, as three key starters left the game with injuries in the second half. Most notably quarterback Colt Brennan, who suffered an injury to his throwing shoulder, left the game after being hit in the third quarter. He finished with 247 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions before being sidelined.
On the ensuing drive, the Warriors lost starting center Samson Satele to an elbow injury and wide receiver Ross Dickerson to a shoulder injury. It was later reported that Dickerson will miss the next three weeks.
Down 27-28 in the third quarter, backup quarterback Tyler Graunke was thrusted into the spot light and got off to a rocky start, taking back-to-back sacks on his first two plays, and Hawai'i was forced to punt on three straight drives.
However, thanks to his defense, he was given one last opportunity to shine and that is what he would do. Graunke led a 10-play, 58-yard drive late in the fourth quarter that was capped off with the eventual game-winning 4-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Grice-Mullen.
Boise State had a couple chances late to tie the game, but quarterback Brian Basch threw his second interception, then Hawai'i forced a turnover on downs to seal the win.

This is nice. I still play NCAA 07 all the time, currently in an SMU dynasty. I have blacklover's old roster on my 'memory card', so its kind of funny seeing names you recognize. Some of these guys have already cycled through the NFL and retired. My best WR is Emmanuel Sanders...never knew he went to SMU.

damn man I wish I had real life rosters! That's awesome. Yeah it's crazy to think that most of the players have finished their pro careers already or will soon. For sliders, I use Playmakers' All-American NCAA 06 sliders and they have been working pretty well for me.

Honolulu, HI -- The Hawai'i Warriors improved their season record to 4-0 and 2-0 in WAC play with a dominating 44-3 victory over the Nevada Wolf Pack on Saturday afternoon.
The deadly combination of quarterback Colt Brennan and receiver Davone Bess was on full display in this one. Brennan threw for 318 yards and 5 touchdowns in just the first half, finishing with 387 yards in the game. Bess recorded a team-high 7 receptions for 160 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Receiver Jason Rivers added 104 yards and 2 touchdowns of his own, while Ian Sample, who was playing for the injured Ross Dickerson, finished with 75 yards and a score.
The Warriors top 10 ranked defense also continued their impressive season, holding Nevada to just three points and 230 yards of total offense. The Wolf Pack finished with -5 yards rushing on 17 attempts, as quarterback Jason Freeman was sacked four times. Freeman was also forced into throwing two interceptions, one of which was recorded by linebacker Tyson Kafentzis who stretched out for a diving grab.
Hawai'i jumped out of the gates quickly, scoring on a 66-yard pass on their first offensive play of the game. A 22-yard touchdown pass to Bess, followed by a second touchdown reception by Rivers put Nevada in a 21-point hole.
Nevada responded with a nice drive but it was stalled and they settled for a field goal, their only points of the game. Hawai'i went on to outscore the Wolf Pack, 23-0 the rest of the way.

Fresno, CA -- The Hawai'i Warriors got more than they expected from their rivals out of Fresno, California, but eventually buckled down and pulled away for a 52-24 victory on Saturday afternoon.
It was a true tale of two halves, as Hawai'i found themselves in a shootout with the Bulldogs in the first, but shut Fresno State down in the second to win handily.
Fresno State took a 14-7 lead in the first quarter thanks to back-to-back touchdown passes from quarterback Jeff Gray to receiver Cory Moody.
Hawai'i responded with back-to-back touchdown passes of their own, a 2-yarder to Ross Dickerson, followed by a 46-yard bomb to Davone Bess which was highlighted by an amazing one-handed grab pictured above.
After forcing a three-and-out, Hawai'i punt returner Jason Ferguson made a nice move and got a couple of timely blocks to score his first career punt return touchdown, giving the Warriors a 28-14 lead. Fresno State quickly responded with a touchdown pass to tight end Phil Roland, then added a field goal right before the half time break, making it a 4-point game.
The script was flipped entirely in the second half. After recording 145 total yards in the first half, the Bulldogs were completely shut down after half time. Hawaii's defense put on a show, giving up just 5 yards of offense, while not allowing Fresno State to convert a single first down. Defensive end Melila Purcell led the team with 7 tackles and recorded a career-best 3 sacks in the game.
The turning point occurred in the third quarter. With the Bulldogs driving down the field with a chance to make it a one possession game, Hawai'i linebacker Tyson Kafentzis recorded his second interception of the year, returning it 35 yards for a pick-six to extend Hawaii's lead to 18 points.
Hawai'i tacked on ten more points to secure their 5th straight win and to improve to 3-0 in conference play. The win helped the Warriors break into the Top 25, sitting at #25. This is just the fourth time in school history that Hawai'i has been ranked in the Top 25, the first time since their 11-2 campaign in 1992.
