Its substance over style - A Deeper look into the Spurs

Meet the San Antonio Spurs, far and wide the most boring team in the NBA . For years now the Spurs have been labelled "boring" , "bad for televsions" , a "ratings killer" ... but why? The San Antonio Spurs currently host one of the most exciting backcourts in the whole of the NBA , a highlight reel machine in Tony Parker and Manu Ginoblli who can rock players on their ankles with the best of them . And then on the frontcourt we have one of the best PFs in recent history , Tim Duncan . The question is why are the Spurs regarded as boring?

In truth the Spurs mainstream perception has nothing to do with the game of basketball itself . Nor does it have anything to do with the ability or "entertainment factor" of the players who wear the jersey night in - night out. The Spurs "boring persona" has more to do with the lack of tattoos, trash talk, and bad attitude.

Another problem facing the Spurs is the foreign influx of players , the casual NBA fan seems to find it hard to relate to players like Tony Parker , Manu Ginoblli and Oberto. None of the Spurs players have the prototypical "came up from nothing" storyline that seems to surround more well-known players like Carmelo Anthony.

But when you look past all the storylines and "trash talking" and simply break down what the Spurs do so well one thing sticks out like a black mark on a clean sheet of paper .... They go for "Substance over style" , what does this mean? It means the Spurs go for players who can walk the walk instead of talking the talk . They dont need any off the court issues to distract the team , this is a team who gets down to buisness .... and hell its brung them 3rings so it must work to some degree right? So let me ask you the "common NBA fan" why the lack of Airtime for the Spurs? Why do most people in the street find it hard to name a Spurs player outside of Tim Duncan? Maybe its because Manu Ginoblli doesnt come out in the press and guarntee victory every other night? Or maybe its because Bruce Bowen hasnt spent 30days in jail ?

The answer is simple , its because of substance over style , the Spurs may be "boring" and a "ratings kill" but they know how to win better than most teams and thats why they are in the Western Confrence Finals without even breaking a sweat this season . While Coach Dan Archer is talking about CP3 as the real MVP and LBJ is beating his chest , the guys in San Antonio are winning the boring way .

God damn. Cp3 has turned it on in these past 2 games. No West is brutal though. Paul carrying the load in his absence though.

CP3's untouchable, too bad the Lakers ruined the show. West being out blows, I just got my starting PF injured on the same dive. Come back and get these last two wins!

2-2 ..... the bolded numbers next to the teams is always the series score unless i state otherwise and yes it does suck .... i made a mistake by not doubling Kobe also

Paul is holding it down but my team normally sucks on the road so i wont be suprised to see this go to a game seven again (pressuming i can win @ home)

Losing West is a huge blow , espically as my team has 0 depth in terms of bigs
