Tell me about it. Thames busted out of the gates this year but has since fallen off the map. I remember him busting a grand slam in that season opening series against the Blue Jays and thought to myself, "Oh yeah, this guy is going to fucking rule this year."
Such is not the case obviously.
I sat Hessman because he is battling the flu right now.
Carlos Guillen is on target to return from the Tigers disabled list as scheduled tonight.
He passed what he called the final test by running the bases on Thursday prior to the Tiger's first game against the Angels.
"It was good," Guillen said with a smile.
Manager Jim Leyland said Guillen will return in Friday's lineup against the Angels as the designated hitter. He went on the disabled list nearly a month ago after inflammation in his right hip.
"He hasn't had any setbacks," Leyland said.
Guillen has played in 29 games so far this season, notching 30 hits in 107 at-bats (.280), with 3 dingers and 12 RBI's.
The Tigers have to make a roster move to make room for Guillen, and did so by optioning Clete Thomas back to Triple-A Toledo.
Thomas was hitting .189 with no homers and 4 RBI's in 37 at-bats.
The Tigers are also expecting 2B Placido Polanco to return from the DL within the next week after being sidelined for the past month with a broken forearm.
Carlos Guillen hit 1 for 3 in his 1st game back from injury, including this RBI double in the 4th.
Sending the hometown fans home happy, the Tigers defeated the Angels lastnight 3-0 , in front of a crowd of 34,393 at Comerica Park. It was a solid start for Justin Verlander, who worked 8 scoreless innings to pick up his 5th win of the season. Curtis Granderson gave the club a spark offensively, getting 2 hits (including a solo shot), and coming in for 2 of the Tigers 3 runs in 4 at-bats.
The series ends tomorrow afternoon, and toeing the rubber for the Tigers will be Edwin Jackson (3-1 , 3.54 ERA), who will face the Angels' Joe Saunders (4-4 , 5.26 ERA).

Player Of The Game:
Justin Verlander
Verlander took care of business once again, pitching 8 shutout innings while sitting down 9 Angels' batters down on strikes.
Yep, it seems like everytime Verlander starts though, my run production sucks. rofl. I mean, he's 5-4 with a sub 3 era. He could easily be 7-2/8-1/9-0 if the bats would come alive when he's on the mound.
Last time I checked, Verlander was the AL leader in strikeouts. ;)

Curtis Granderson was a force offensively, going 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 RBI to lead the charge.
The Tigers and Jeremy Bonderman (3-3 , 2.19 ERA) take on the White Sox and Jose Contreras (6-5, 3.28 ERA) under the lights tomorrow night in southside Chicago, the first of 10 games in a row away from home for Detroit.

Another Venezuelan in the line-up. hopefully he can produce...
Dude, Guillen hit a bomb in the 3rd inning to straight center. Too bad fuckin Comerica straight center is 420 feet and it didn't make it over the wall.
Them being without Torii Hunter and Vladimir Guerrero (for games 2 and 3) for this series really tipped the scales in my favor. Imo, we did everything we needed to do to win. Pitched well, hit well, ran the basepaths well. I kick off a 10 game road trip now so hopefully the momentum carries over. So happy to have Carlos Guillen back.
