Raburn Does More Harm Than Good As Tigers Fall In Game 1 To Yanks

                (12-7) vs (11-8)

Carlos Guillen pinch hit for Adam Everett in the 9th, bringing in a run and tightening the gap to 4-3.

The Tigers lost a tight contest with the Yankees tonight, with New York picking up a 4-3 victory on the road. Magglio Ordonez was a force offensively, going 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 RBI's to lead the Tigers charge. Zach Miner entered a tie game but was unable maintain the status quo, after a Ryan Raburn error that would've gotten the Tigers out of the inning, allowed 2 Yankees runs to come across the plate. The Tigers showed signs of a possible comeback after Carlos Guillen brought in a run after pitch hitting for Adam Everett but once again, Raburn failed the Tigers. With runners in scoring position and 2 outs, Raburn popped a lazy fly ball to the outfield to end the game and forcing Miner to take his 1st loss of the season.

The series continues tomorrow night with a stellar pitching matchup: Justin Verlander (1-2 , 3.03 ERA) of the Tigers versus C.C. Sabathia (1-1 , 4.91 ERA) of the Yankees.

Desperate Times Call For Desperate Measures

The Tigers have managed to stay competitive in the absence of second baseman Placido Polanco but that is no thanks to Ryan Raburn and Ramon Santiago.

Both Raburn and Santiago are hitting just over .100 so far this season in place of Polanco and in the case of lastnight's 1 run loss to the Yankees, letting the team down on the defensive side of the ball as well.

With the top 3 teams in the AL Central within a game of one another in the standings, every game counts, and Tigers manager Jim Leyland understands that.

"Ryan and Ramon really aren't playing solid baseball out there," said Leyland. "We can't just sit quietly and not try to find ways to fix the problem. Placido's injured. It happens. We have to deal with it."

Carlos Guillen, who has filled the role of third baseman, left fielder and designated hitter all season long, will make the transition back to the infield and play second base.

"I played some second back in Seattle," explained Guillen with a laugh. "But that was a long time ago. We'll see how it goes."

We'll see how it goes. That just about sums it up. All we can hope for is that Carlos doesn't suddenly start batting for a .100 average and let games slip away due to of silly fielding errors. The Tigers are expected to utilize this lineup during this "experimental" phase.

                        1. LF Josh Anderson
                        2. CF Curtis Granderson
                        3. RF Magglio Ordonez
                        4. 1B Miguel Cabrera
                        5. 2B Carlos Guillen
                        6. DH Marcus Thames
                        7. 3B Brandon Inge
                        8. C Gerald Laird
                        9. SS Adam Everett

At 3rd he's decent. He's no Brandon Inge. He won't make web gems on the regular or anything but he holds his own.

I'm just stuck. Placido's out for another month and a half and I got these 2 douchebags jacking off and not doing anything in Santiago and Raburn. I'd send them down but then I don't have any guys on the bench who can play 2nd/SS.

I'd sign Mark Grudzielnaek or however the fuck you spell it but he's like 38 and wants a 3-4 year contract. gtfo mark.

                              Just hoping this works lol.
