Yeah, I think I took the #1 spot with that last win. Not like it's a comfortable lead or anything though. lol. After every game teams are moving up and down in the division standings.

Tigers Scatter Hits; Split Two-Game Series With White Sox

      (17-11) @ (15-13)

Curtis Granderson's 1st inning home run was supposed to get the offense going. Unfortunately, that didn't exactly happen.

The Tigers gave their AL Central foes a solid fight last night but in the end the White Sox picked up a 4-2 victory at U.S. Cellular FIeld. Curtis Granderson sparked the offense, belting a solo home run and collected 2 hits in 4 trips to the plate. Rick Porcello was the starter and loser, working 5 innings and allowing 4 runs on 7 hits in defeat.

The Tigers will be in Cleveland tomorrow night opening the series with Dontrelle Willis (3-0 , 3.41 ERA) opposing Zach Jackson (2-0 , 2.14 ERA) and the Indians. Carlos Guillen looks to build on his 13-game hitting streak.

Tigers Nab Huge Win By The Skin Of Their Teeth In Extras

                    (17-12) @ (16-13)

Miguel Cabrera slides into 2nd for his 4th double on the year.

The Tigers and Indians needed extra innings to decide an AL Central showdown, with Detroit eventually winning 8-7 in 12 innings thanks to a 2 run shot by Miguel Cabrera in the the top of the 12th that put the Tigers up by 2. Curtis Granderson was an offensive catalyst for the Tigers in this one, batting 3 for 6 with a home run and double and coming in for 3 runs. Zach Miner earned the win (his 2nd of the season) with a solid outing in extras after the bullpen blew the lead in late innings. Miner went 3 innings and allowed no runs on 2 hits.

Game 2 is tomorrow night, and Cleveland fans must be nervous with their team having to face Tigers ace Justin Verlander (3-2 , 2.06 ERA), who will be opposed by Cliff Lee (1-3 , 2.84 ERA). Miguel Cabrera hopes to add to his 10-game hitting streak.

Guillen Will Be Out Of The Swing Of Things With Inflamed Hip

Carlos Guillen slid into 2nd on a double in the Tigers last game against the Indians and was forced to leave the game with a sore hip.

Guillen underwent an MRI this morning and tests revealed some inflammation in the hip which will likely force Guillen to miss 3-4 weeks of play.

Guillen was seen fiddling with a bat during today's practice session, but won't do any real swinging for at least a week.

"He's still very uncomfortable at this point," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said. "He probably will not be available for a couple weeks or so until we get that inflammation to calm down."

The Tigers have placed Guillen on the 15-day disabled list and recalled 3B Mike Hessman out of Triple-A Toledo.

Guillen is batting .280 with 3 homers and 12 rbi's so far this season. In 2 games with the Tigers so far this season, Hessman has batted .286 with 1 rbi.

Marcus Thames will take over full time DH duties with Guillen out, despite hitting a dismal .184 so far this season.

That 8th inning was brutal. Seay started giving up hits so I decide to put Zumaya in. He can't get out of the inning until he gives up a hit that brought in a run, then wild pitches another run home.

Every bottom half of each inning after that I was so scared Miner was going to get rocked but he made it through.

Then I get that 2 run shot in the 12th with Miggy and was like

Then they come back and scare the shit out of me as they score once against Rodney. The Indians are a tough team.

Put it this way, the last out of the game came on a tumbling outfield catch by Magglio when they had runners on 1st and 3rd.

Calling it close was a frikkin understatement.

Yep. 1st of the season and as a Tiger. Granderson struck out but got on base as the ball got past the catcher because that sonofabitch bounced in the dirt. Young came in and got all of one right down the pipe. BOOM!
