Red Hot Rangers Tee Off On Porcello, Tigers Held Scoreless In Series Opener

        (23-15) vs (17-21)

Magglio Ordonez's double would end up being the Tigers only extra-base hit in this one.

A crowd of 24,235 fans witnessed their team get crushed yesterday, with the Tigers suffering an 8-0 pasting at the hands, and bats, of the Rangers. Gerald Laird was the "catalyst" for a non-existant Tigers offense, stroking a pair of hits in 3 at bats. Rick Porcello got the call in this one, but he wasn't sharp in his 5 innings of work, yielding 6 runs on 9 hits, as the loss dropped his record to 3-3.

Game 2 of the series is tomorrow night, as Dontrelle Willis (4-0 , 3.32 ERA) will look to remain undefeated against the Rangers Scott Feldman (1-0 , 4.30 ERA). Curtis Granderson hopes to build on an 11-game hitting streak.

Yeah, that's been the story with my team for most of the season. If I'm not drilling home runs, I'm not bringing many runs home. I really cannot wait until Guillen and Polanco come back from injury.

Tigers Drop Second Straight As Willis Tastes Defeat For First Time In 2009

                    (23-16) vs (18-21)

Did the meds stop working? Dontrelle Willis got rocked early on by the Rangers offense.

The Tigers were on the wrong side of a 8-4 tally in Detroit tonight, as the Rangers collected the win in front of 30,235 fans at Comerica Park. Gerald Laird drilled a solo home run, his only hit of the game, in the losing effort. Dontrelle Willis struggled mightily on the mound, giving up 7 runs on 8 hits, in only 3 and two thirds innings of work to take the loss, putting him at 4-1 on the year.

The two teams will conclude the series tomorrow afternoon at Comerica, with Justin Verlander (4-2 , 2.34 ERA) going for the Tigers against former Tiger Armando Galarraga (3-1 , 3.02 ERA) and the Rangers. Curtis Granderson looks to build on his 12-game hitting streak.

It Took 18, But Tigers Avoid Sweep Against Rangers

                          (23-17) vs (19-21)

The Tigers celebrate after Magglio Ordonez brings in the game winning run in walkoff fashion.

The Tigers needed 18 innings to get the win over the Rangers tonight at Comerica, finally coming out on top 2-1 after a game winning RBI single off the bat of Magglio Ordonez. Justin Verlander was terrific over 9 innings, giving up just 1 run on 6 hits to get his 7th quality start of the season, but the Tigers bats were not able to deliver the win for him. Joel Zumaya snared his 1st victory of the season in extra frames, firing 5 innings of relief and allowing no runs on 4 hits. Michael Young picked up an RBI and batted 2 for 6 against his former team, providing the offensive "spark."

                            Bottom of 18th recap:

                            - Everett leads off inning with single
                            - Josh Anderon comes in and tries for sac bunt, he beats out the throw, runners on 1st and second
                            - Curtis Granderson comes in and drives one to right center but it's caught, I take a chance and advance Everett to 3rd, he makes it
                            - They sub out Turnbow for Benson with runners on the corners
                            - Magglio drives one straight up the box and Everett comes home

Jesus christ, that was a marathon.

                              Series Review:

All in all, a pretty forgetable series for us. I'm glad we were able to squeeze one out. It's hard to believe the Rangers were once 4-18 and are now only 3 games under .500. That Armando Galarraga/Michael Young trade seems to have paid dividends for them.
