Granderson's Pinch Hitting Heroics Helps Tigers To Walkoff Win In Nailbiter

    (25-18) vs (22-20)

Tigers 3B coach Gene Lamont waves Mike Hessman home after a Curtis Granderson line drive to right centerfield.

It was tight, but the Tigers prevailed over the Rockies, winning 5-4 in front of a crowd of 23,585 at Comerica Park. The club was helped bu Curtis Granderson, who drove in the game tying run off a pinch hit triple then coming in for the game winning run after an RBI single off the bat of Josh Anderson. Rick Porcello picked up a no-decision, working 7 innings and allowing only 3 runs, his 4th quality start of the season. Entering the game while tied at 3 runs a piece, Zach Miner looked like he was in position to earn the loss after giving up a solo shot to Jeff Baker in the top of the 9th. However, Granderon's heroics allowed Miner to earn his 3rd win of the season, firing off 2 innings of relief allowing 1 run on 3 hits.

The Tigers go to Kansas City tomorrow to start a new series with the Royals, with Dontrelle Willis (4-1, 4.21 ERA) set to take on Horacio Ramirez (2-2, 3.52 ERA) under the lights at Kauffman Stadium.

        9th inning recap:

        - Miner gives up a solo shot in top of the inning, i'm down 4-3.
        - Bottom half of the inning, I lead off with Gerald Laird and strike out. 1 out.
        - Mike Hessman, who has been kicking ass lately, drives through the infield to left for a base hit :D
        - Clete Thomas up to bat after him, batting shitty, 0-3 for this game as well
        - Fuck that, bring in Granderson to pinch hit, He shoots one right over the head of the Rockies 2B and into the infield for a triple. Hessman comes in, game tied 4-4 :D
        - Raburn comes up to bat. All he has to do is get one airborne for a sac fly for the win. Instead, he hits an atom ball to the 2B for a fly out. 2 outs.
        - Josh Anderson comes in and hits a lazy flare over Helton and Granderson comes home for the win.

DON"T COUNT OUT THOSE TIGERS SON

          Series Review:

For hitting .337 over the course of the series, we only managed to bring in 13 runs. That's a lot of stranded runners out there. We are still hitting into ground plays way too often.

I think I underestimated the Rockies though. I thought this series would be an easy sweep coming into it. Both games I won, were decided by only 1 run and the one that they took, they demolished me.

I really like that new Kauffman. And Greinke at 1-5? Wow.

Hopefully you can take a couple from KC.

Runs Come At A Premium In Tigers Victory

                            (26-18) @ (21-23)

Dontrelle Willis led the Tigers to a win, despite the lack of run production.

Playing at night and on the road, the Tigers secured a 2-0 win in front of 20,782 fans in Kansas City tonight. Dontrelle Willis went the first 8 innings, giving up no runs on 7 hits to not his 5th win of the season. It wasn't a great day offensively for the team, who were "led" by Miguel Cabrera and his 1 RBI and 1 for 4 performance.

The Tigers will look to take advantage of a struggling Zack Greinke (1-5 , 4.50 ERA) tomorrow night in game 2 of the series as they counter with Justin Verlander (4-2 , 2.16 ERA)
