I've always been a fan of Season 2 mostly because of this character.

besides Entourage I really can't think of one movie/show he has had a good role in. He has been in a ton of films but his best work comes from two HBO shows.

Royo's portrayal of this character was so convincing that during on-location filming he was once approached by a real life addict and given heroin, with the compassionate addict declaring that the in-character Royo did "need a fix more than" him. Royo has called this his "street Oscar."

agreed. Season 2 holds up alot better on a re-watch. Frank Sobotka is actually a really fascinating character in retrospect. he's just a guy trying to keep it together while the world burns down around him, just like all the other characters on the show. I think Season 2 gets alot of hate because Season 1 set up a bunch of shit that didnt really carry forward until season 3, but it was an important bridge to the east side and The Greek connect is what set up pretty much everything that happened on the street s4 and s5.

I think the vast majority of "hate" for season 2 was due to it not being about the streets.

i forget the link, but, there was an interview i read with david simon talking about how alot of people accused him of "going white" on the audience, since after season 1, there was some serious doubts about the traction of the series (and there always was, even season 5 barely happened. they had a 6 season story arc they had to pare down into 5. Simon later redacted himself suggesting that it was all part of the plan, but there was supposed to be a season 6 where they focused heavier on the influx of latino's into baltimore and how it fucked up the program on the streets)

my view point on the first 3 seasons and feeling that S2 doesn't get its just due, is that the show is called the Wire, and those 3 seasons were about the Wire, after that it wasn't about the Wire anymore. Not that it made the show any better or worse without "the wire" it just seemed like the formula of the show changed.

yeah I'm really curious to see where season 4 goes since obviously the Barksdale crew won't be the main emphasis like in the first 3 seasons.

Just finished season 4. Still going strong as ever. My favorite season was #1, followed by 4, 3, then 2. Felt that season two was horrendous in comparison with the rest.

                            Favorite characters so far:
                            Wee Bey
                            Bodie
                            McNulty
                            Avon
                            Stringer
                            Cutty
                            Omar
                            Prez
                            Bunk

                            Least favorite:
Ziggy (One of the worst characters in tv history)
Rhonda Pearlman (Stupid ass fucking bitch)
                            Namond ()
                            Carver
                            Landsman

Meh...I kind of regret putting him in my least favorite now, he's not so bad. Maybe Kima's GF can take his place, or Snoop because of how weird it was to find out she was a she. lol
