Then don't let anyone tell you anything about it. Nobody here is going to kill any hype for you. Just watch it. You're not allowed to critique or judge or discuss television without watching the show, so what the fuck are you waiting for?

Season 2 was probably my favorite season actually. Frank Sobotka and Beadie were probably the only two characters who I really felt horrible when bad things happened to.

With how deep and engrossing the viewing experience is, it's as if you are reading a sprawling series of epic novels. It's a slow burn, and the payoffs are more "earned" than a traditional serial drama. If you invest the time and energy, it's well worth it.

the first 7-8 shows wont knock your socks off out of the gate...so be aware of that and get past that. But after that you will be hooked. I also had never seen the show until a few months ago but finally caved and began. After 5 months i had run through the entire series at least 6 times...i didnt watch any other shows and probably watched at least 2 per day.

what is so amazing to me about this show is it has so many different characters and so many different scenarios going on in each season and everything molds together so flawlessly. But the thing that kept me engaged was the ultra realistic nature of the show. This show is more realistic than reality shows. There are no holes in the plot....there is nothing that makes you say, oh that couldnt happen because this would have happened. nothing like that

those first 7 or 8 shows are only slow going because you get to know all the characters. When you watch the series the 2nd time you will come to love those early shows because you now know those characters and have come to love them.

Im on my 2nd run of breaking bad, but im actually ready to dive back into the wire for another run

Honestly, I hate trying to "sell" anyone on The Wire at this point. If you haven't seen it yet then you are simply doing yourself a disservice by watching other shows. I can't think of another show that I would ever call "must see," except for Band of Brothers but that is a miniseries.

If you're looking for mindless instant action packed entertainment then the Wire isn't for you. You won't make it through season 1.

If you're looking for something more then investing your time and attention to The Wire will be an experience that you will not regret.

I don't care if you think The Wire is the greatest show ever or an average show, nobody can ever honestly tell me that they wished they didn't waste their time watching the series. You will take something from it and it will make you think. Where it ranks on your all time favorite shows is irrelevant to be honest.

I just finished up season 2 last nght. I get what people are saying about the second season being not as good, because I thought that same thing. I didn't find myself as invested into the shipping guys as I was the first season characters. And I also felt like it was a little rushed in that it took like half the season for the unit to be set up, and then bam everything was done in about 5 shows.

Though as said, it is amazing how they easily cross storylines without much effort, and put everything together. I like how their opening sequence and their endings are 'soft' and not some huge shocker shit trying to get you hooked. Sets up the episode so much better then some "BANG BANG BANG OMG" shit.
All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.

I was loling at the 'proper business meeting' Stringer was running. Nigga's be raising their hand to have the floor.

Hope no spoils this shit for me, but I really hope they don't capture The Greek or even bring him back. I haven't looked at any upcoming shows or anything on wikipedia about it, but I just hope they don't. You get tired of normal shows always finishing everything off, and every bad guy getting caught. That isn't real life. To me it adds more to the characters having people slip then always making a case on everything.

Is it possible to still have a hype machine years after the show last aired?

It saddens me to say I finished The Wire today. I hate when a show comes to an end, because you just want a little more, and you want a few little things to happen, but here is my thoughts, and I'll put it in a spoiler so as not to ruin it for anyone who hasn't seen it.

                              - first things first, I'll get right to the GOAT stuff. I think it is way to early for me to say it, and even right now I don't believe it. With that being said, I have never put any show up as the GOAT, or even on a level higher then another except for M*A*S*H*. But needless to say, it was very well done, kept everything in the loop, and had some things left undone that needed to be left undone.

                              - I am a big fan of not catching the Greeks, simply because that is life. You don't always catch the guys. It is nice for one that not everything is done up in a nice little package.

                              - How could they do my nigga Omar like that? He was the best character on the show IMO, and they had him offed like nothing. I really wanted a Marlo/Omar standoff, or at least a conversation like Omar/Brother, but instead there was nothing. All the "tell Marlo I'm in the street" stuff seemed like a waste, and even him having his leg messed up seemed empty now, because no matter if he could walk good or not, it wouldn't have mattered in how he died. He was the perfect anti-hero, and you just wanted him to go out in a hero's way, not like that. I just felt empty after it.

                              - I also am like "wtf?" with Marlo at the end. After he leaves the party, goes to the corner, fights off two guys, that is it. I get the symbolic, "getting his name in the street back", but I just again felt a little empty by it. You invest so much into the character, you just feel like something was missing to the end.

                              - Jimmy's wake was the only way he could have gone out.

                              - What happened to Cutty? I think you see him once in the 5th season? Didn't even get a mention at the end. I know I may be harping on things I think they missed, but this is another guy they spent a lot of time on, and they gave him no proper ending. Same with Bunny, and Prezbo. They had their stint in the school system, but after that, they were just filler characters used when needed. Was also hoping to see Nick Sobotka a little more over the course of the seasons.

                              - The ending seemed to fit perfectly though with the show. All the major guys in high figure roles got the glory and the big jobs, and played the political game, Bunk is still the Bunk, and he just keeps going on, and Jimmy is just as lost as ever, and rather then his trademark "What the fuck did I do?", at the end it is more of a "what the fuck do I do?".

                              - I will say this, this show has inspired me in my own writing. I am noticing a lot of HBO shows are doing that for me. The main thing coming from this is, you don't need to have blowing up shit, and fast action to get the person interested. I've been working on a small series of short stories, and the first part is a very slow opening. Just two guys on a corner talking. You don't get much detail, but it all becomes clear later on. It is shows like this that make me really want to focus on my character and story building, because that is what will keep people interested. Good writing is always good, but the characters make people turn the page.

All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.
