"Sometimes I just want to be with my family and watch movie and eat some popcorn. But when I step on the mat I know there is no other place I'd rather be." - Marcelo Garcia
Although I live for Entourage, The Wire is an excellent show. Ive only seen a couple of episodes, so Im not exactly familiar with whats going on, but from what I see, I really like.
I haven't seen enough Oz to tell you if it's better, but from what I have seen, it's pretty similar. If you like Oz you'll like The Wire.
It has long arcing story lines that develop slowly over the course of the whole season (and in some cases, across multiple seasons), and a shit ton of characters that interact realistically within this TV-version of Baltimore. Everything ties in to the bigger picture. Despite being very broad in spectrum, it still somehow manages to give the viewer an intimate look and feel.
It's one of those shows that gets better as you learn more about each character and it makes you care about almost all of them. If you like well developed story lines and suspense that builds slowly instead of using cheap plot devices, then this is your kind of show.
