If there's one thing steeljake and I can agree on, it's the greatness of 'The Band'.

today's lesson is a lesson in less is more. some bands use tons of keyboards and overdubs for guitars and 5 part harmonies to make their music sound big. some use huge amounts of effects and lasers live to make them seem huge. this band only does one thing... they rock. simple songs in 4/4 time and a few chord changes, with the bass player not doing much else than pumping the root note and just rumbling the house. This is the kind of band when a song comes on the radio you look down and your doing 80 and are not sure how that happened...
I bring you, the thunder from down under, AC/DC...
Orignally formed inteh 70's in Australia with brothers Malcom and Angus Young on guitar they took their name from a warning tag on a sewing machine. The original lead singer, Bon Scott was not known for his bird like voice, but instead his vocals could break glass and make your parents ask 'what the hell did he just say?' Angus' blues based leads mixed with malcom's solid rythm's made for the kind of music that makes you want break shit. Bon Scott died in 1980 and it would have seemd that all was lost. But enter Brian Johnson, whose voice sounds almost idnetical to Scott's. They released Back In Black, which is the 5th highest selling album in US history. This band is rock and roll, so for those about to rock...

nothing against that...I love AC/DC and they're one of the best live bands out there...possibly ever. However...if you've heard 2 AC/DC songs, you've heard them all. That's the criticism of the band.

ok, next up we have one the most influential guitarist of the 20th century. Eddie Van Halen, his brother Alex, bassist Micael Antony and front man David Lee Roth burst onto teh scene in 1978 with thei self titled debut and it changed rock music forever. Eruption, a solo guitar piece by Eddie, was not only innonvantive but has become the standard by which all guitar solo's are judged. Not only can eddie shred a guitar, but his work on the keys is legendary as well. The band sufffered the dreaded lead singer change in the early 80's, but much to Dave's dismay, it was Eddie that drive the band. Singer Sammy Hagar steppedinto the lead mouth role and the band enjoyed a great career throughout the 80's and 90's. While the band has turned into a novelty act as of late, their influence on rock and metal cannot be dismissed.

great, you named the 2 most over played mainstream songs ever. Can you name something you didnt hear 2 million times on the radio?
i was curious about jakes music because i am always facinated by things retards do. But this thread is full of a bunch of hillbilly hairband music that most 1 testicle holding homos from little west virginia would listen too.
LOL @ giving lessons on music. the only lesson to be learned here is that steeljake needs to go sit his fat overall wearing mullet sporting pabst blue ribbion drinking ass back down at the camp fire and keep lighting a flame while listening to freebird on his 8 trackComment

Here's a band I've been listening to a lot recently, they've been around since the early 90's but a lot of you probably haven't heard of them:
