Prince is one of the most underrated artists of all time. That's my shit. My dad had all his CD's and I learned to love his music.

Some of my favorite tracks are
    7
    Purple Rain
    Alphabet Street
    Diamonds & Pearls
    and
    Musicology is just plain funky

Prince was the shit before he hit it big with '1999', and later 'Purple Rain'. Back then he was was like a underground cult figure. Folks didn't know what to make of him - dude would come out dressed in thigh-high stockings and boots, but he tore shit up on the guitar. Y'all should check out his earlier LPs. He doesn't get the recognition he should from the rock & roll community. Dude can play just about anything - rock, metal, funk, soul, pop, you name it.

            For You(1978)
            Prince(1979)
            Dirty Mind(1980)
            Controversy(1981)

...and of course he wrote, perfomed, and produced all The Time LPs. He wrote stuff for Vanity 6, Sheila E., Sheena Easton, The Bangles('Manic Monday'), Sinead O'Connor, etc., etc., etc. So many artists have said Prince was a big influence on them(Alicia Keys did one of his songs on her first CD).

If you want some hard-hitting Prince-funk, listen to the 'Black Album'.

anything purple rain and before was great. I lost interest after that. the combo of 80ies hair bands and prince and the revolution didnt mesh very well. Besides, the 80ies hair bands had hotter chicks in the bands. Im not sure why they all sounded like guys though

I like "I would die 4 U", and his other songs aren't that bad, but I've never bought an album of his. He's like Bruce Springsteen to me...if his song comes on the radio, I won't change the station, but I'm also not rushing out to the store to buy the CD.

                          Prince > MJ

Prince had everyone at the Sb party I was at for the Indy vs Chi game mezmorized. That was the best Sb performance ever.

                          Purple Rain
                          Darling Nikki
                          Erotic City
                          1999
                          When Doves Cry

                          So many classics.

Eh, I don't know man, but if anyone could compete with MJ it'd be Prince. Prince is a GOAT no doubt but when you look at what MJ has done in the music industry, his first 4 songs with the JAckson 5 hit #1 in the country and he had what? 5 #1 singles on the Bad Album alone? Not to mention Thriller is the best studio album of all time, and before he died. Not none of this Tupac/Biggie "lets sell 10 million records after we die" mess. I think Bad hit #1 in 9/10 major countries.
