But your point show's how U2 is one of the most popular bands (worldwide), but is the music they make really of the best quality? I think that both you and me would rather listen to Peter Gabriel no matter how big U2 is. I think that U2's name is bigger than there music, thus they're overrated. Give me some Aerosmith, Tom Petty, or Duran Duran for God's sake!

Nirvana is VERY overated - the death of cobain is the only thing that made there music popular... i'm in my 30's and i say they are way overrated (and i'm a fan too), there were many early 90's bands far more talented who were out the same exact time as nirvana--so i dont know why everyone credits nirvana for starting grunge/alternative and killing 80's hair bands
they were one of the best selling bands for almost 3 years, so to say the only thing that made them popular was his death is pretty backwards.....did his death ensure their relevance for years to come and also make the band in retrospect over-rated....very much so....i'll be the first to admit there were far superior bands out during that time that didn't get the recognition they deserved.
and the killing 80's hair bands is cause they were the first "grunge" band to have huge commercial success, they knocked off michael jackson's dangerous which had been #1 for a month straight and it showed the musical industry that this new type of music was commercially viable. once nirvana hit #1 every major label swarmed the pacific northwest looking for the next "nirvana", thus killing the hair bands of the day cause no one wanted to be associated with that look/sound/lifestyle.
its fine to think nirvana is overrated, hell i do, but to say what your saying really weakens your opinion.Comment

I lol at some of these bands being mentioned, who aren't even good enough to make the overrated list. I'm going by legendary status here, so my choice is...
The Doors.
I love them, but they were completely and totally overrated.
As for AC/DC... You got it all wrong.
AC/DC (Bon Scott) = One of the greatest rock bands of all-time.
AC/DC (Brian Johnson) = Overrated. His voice was limited, unlike Scott's, so they really had to cater to what he was good at, so they really can't be blamed for the drop off... He was the best thing they could find to replace a legend, and they did an okay job, even though I dislike Brian Johnson's ''voice.''
But seriously - Lol @ comparing AC/DC, legends to some of the shit posted in this thread.. You really have to be 17 years old to think you can even believe a comparison exists. You can have a favorite band, and add a bit of reality into the mix, too, you know.Last edited by Nukleopatra; 11-26-2009, 10:30 PM.Comment

Oh, and lmao @ ''Pet Shop Boys'' being overrated.
They've been going for over 25 years, and continue selling out concerts, and kicking out new albums, as we speak. Their popularity has no limits, even after 25 fucking years. I'd love to know how they're overrated.. Actually, no, I really don't care to know, because it was posted by a 14 year old kid who copied and pasted some lame ass list off one of his limp bizkit fan sites.
I think I'll go pop in my Blink 182 CD.. They're so hip.Last edited by Nukleopatra; 11-26-2009, 10:37 PM.Comment

I may get hated on for this, but I don't really care. My choice is The Beatles. I don't get it, they're a good band no doubt, but the best rock band of all time? No, not to me. One of my friends can't understand why I don't think they're great, but they don't really bring anything that different to the table for me. It seems like its a lot of simple instrumental with some solid lyrics. Again, they're good, but best rock band ever? No. I wouldn't even consider them a great band.Comment

So, as much as I hate asking this, let's have it.Comment

Also, I think the reason The Doors might be considered overrated isn't because of their music, but because I think a lot of people tried to read to deep into it. I think that happens a lot, people think their is some really deep message but really their isn't. Also, they relied heavily on long instrumental solos.Last edited by mgoblue2290; 11-26-2009, 10:50 PM.Comment

I don't have a favorite band. Its hard for me to pick and it would probably change quite a bit. I will admit I'm not a big music guy so maybe thats why I'm not to into the Beatles. I do like The Who and The Doors and they would both definitely be in my top 5. Bob Dylan has well although only his older stuff. I also like AC DC a lot, just because I love the way they sound, its very kickass. I do like more modern bands as well like Nirvana, Foo Fighters, The White Stripes (some, they dropped off significantly to me, and some others.

Now that I think about it, I'd have to nominate The Sex Pistols. I mean, they didn't even reach iconic status because of their music, because, well, I could choose four guys from this forum, and we'd create better sound.
But I still fucking love them.Comment

But there impact on music and the world can no way be understated or ever repeated by another band.Don't Sit Down 'Cause I've Moved Your ChairComment
