No surprise that it's mostly the stoners on this board who are loving this movie.
I will say it's a decent movie. But, it's on par with just about every other decent to good movie out there.
Imax 3D is the best way to see this movie. Seeing it in a regular theater is just pointless.
But, it's a storyline we've seen many times before.
At one point, I was thinking the movie was going to end with the Navi living in Reservations.Comment

I have nothing more really to offer.
Saw this movie last night, I cant begin to explain anything about it. I was speechless from the second it tells you to put on the glasses all the way to the last scene. Absolutely incredible, and this movie has changed the game for years i really think that.Comment

It was a good movie.
It's not original (plot wise) but the whole 3D effect really immersed you in it, even if it was a shallow immersion, you were still drowning in Avatar's experience. I'm a sci-fi nut so it's nice to see a non-horrendously-god-awful-bad sci fi movie to come out.
But then again I went into it with 0 expectations, not having my 3d glasses be snooty glasses, and I also went into it expecting it to not be fucking Shawshank Redemption or Citizen Kane.
I think the movie industry/theater industry may have found a new gimmick that they can use to start getting people to go back to the theaters. If the 3D starts to get utilize this way, and less Final Destination way (where everything comes straight at you rather than immerse) then i'll start returning to the theatres more.
I'm also now anticipating Alice, as I had no idea the movie was also going to be 3D.Comment

Basically, this movie is Dances With Wolves with big blue Native Americans that fly Pterodactyls.
With that said, it is a good movie.
It is truly a cinematic experience though...the RealD technology was fantastic and truly groundbreaking...the eyes took a bit to adjust to what I was seeing, but after that, you truly immersed yourself. I thought, more than anything, the idea of layering the shot in the way they did, did more for the film than anything done in film making in a long time. It made what should have been a VERY visually busy film (to the point it deters from the film) into a film visually stunning and completely immersible. Cameron surely outdid himself with this level of technology in the film. Truly a benchmark in film making. I fear though, this may overrun Hollywood and not for the better. This technology is going to generate way too many bad flicks, if it already hasn't.
As for Sam Worthington...he is your new it-guy in Hollywood, for sure.
Overall, it is tough to grade the film...as an experience in the theatre, its up there and you can't really pass up a chance to see this in the theatre, but on the other, it is tough to see how well they did in terms of film making outside of visuals...storyline? Well...its been done before, but, after taking film classes, most films are ruined anyway, as they all follow the same pattern with the same basic sets of storylines...this one, we've seen before many times, so, how well did they pull it off? I'm not so sure, as I was too busy watching the awesomeness in 3D.
I wonder how the regular, 2D experience for this film plays out...I will make sure to watch this in 2D as well...should give you an idea of how really good/bad the film is.Comment

AVATAR has received so much praise because its the very first of it's kind. Eventually, the expensive 3D graphics and special effects won't be able to make up for the average plotlines.Comment

Eventually, those "expensive" 3D graphics will no longer be expensive...Comment
