Film used to be about the feeling of motion on screen brought on by lights, editting and camera placement... actual good writing came later but that's what made movies stand out as art.

Now all you need is a green projector screen, white dots and headgear to get paid it seems... I'm not against it but I'm going to miss amateur indie flicks with a single static shot of talking heads.
RealD/3d isn't going to just cease the production of natural film.

You guys are acting like movies are just going to cease to exist.

Just got back from seeing it. Honestly, it was a good movie, but nothing I would go see again, or even both to pck up once it comes out the buy. Maybe a download, but that is all. I guess I just don't understand the hype of it. As someone pointed out, this is just the "John Smith" story all over again, but with aliens and a strange new world. My girlfriend and I went with a guy from work and he has seen it now three times. Honestly, I wouldn't even think of seeing this movie again.
All you need to know when thinking of the NHL vs Madden series is the two people involved in making the games.

      "rammer" and "cummings"

The NHL series is a giver, Madden takes the load.

I think it's going to suck. I'm gonna watch it when it comes out on DVD, but great visuals alone doesn't make for a good movie. My impression from the trailer is the dialogue and story are awful, and they want it to succeed on the pure epicness of the battle scenes.

Avatar is more of a visual experience that you can only get in theaters. Waiting until the DVD/Blu-Ray won't do the film justice.

With that said, if you are the type of moviegoer who cannot stand a movie heavy in visual effects, then you probably shouldn't watch the movie at all.

I like movies heavy in visual effects, but that can't be all they have. Battle scene after battle scene with horribly written plot here and there isn't what I call a great movie.

Avatar has a plot. Is it very complex? no not really, its been done quite a few times, but that doesnt mean its still not a good story.

There is only one epic "battle scene" in the movie. Most of the movie is used to tell the story and build the characters, with the majority of the action towards the end. Go see the movie. I am pretty sure you will enjoy how they told the story, even though it isn't very original. Also see it in 3-D.

Yeah, the story is really well told and it is compelling, no matter how many times it's been done in the past. This isn't another Transformers by any means.

The movie was OK but the 3D really made this a good experience.

                              Who said otherwise?

However, fact of the matter is, that these types of films are money makers...
