Another one you've beaten me on.

For the record, I don't think I really reach that point - I just go with it as long as I feel I've got a good-sized pool to draw from.

As I said before, I'll duck my head in here on occasion with some more observation about movies of the decade just completed. We already spoke villains, now let's talk about the good guys. Here are...

Dell's Favorite Movie Heroes of the Decade

            10. Iron Man
            Iron Man

The Square-Jawed Sentiment: I saw young Americans killed by the very weapons I created to defend them and protect them. And I saw that I had become part of a system that is comfortable with zero-accountability...I had my eyes opened. I came to realize that I had more to offer this world than just making things that blow up.

            9. Billy Costigan
            The Departed

The Square-Jawed Sentiment: You didn't come here to talk, alright. You came here to get arrested!

            8. Shrek
            Shrek

The Square-Jawed Sentiment: Look, I'm not the one with the problem, okay? It's the world that seems to have a problem with *me*! People take one look at me and go "Aargh! Help! Run! A big stupid ugly ogre!" They judge me before they even know me.

            7. Wolverine
            X-Men series, X-Men Origins: Wolverine

The Square-Jawed Sentiment: My whole life, I've felt like an animal - but I've ignored my instincts. I ignored what I really am. But that will never happen again.

            6. Maximus
            Gladiator

The Square-Jawed Sentiment: Five thousand of my men are out there in the freezing mud. Three thousand of them are bloodied and cleaved. Two thousand will never leave this place. I will not believe that they fought and died for nothing.

            5. Spider-Man
            Spider-Man series

The Square-Jawed Sentiment: Whatever life holds in store for me, I will never forget these words: "With great power comes great responsibility." This is my gift, my curse. Who am I? I'm Spider-man.

            4. King Leonidas
            300

The Square-Jawed Sentiment: No retreat, no surrender; that is Spartan lore. And by Spartan lore we will stand and fight... and die. A new age has begun. An age of freedom, and all will know, that 300 Spartans gave their last breath to defend it!

            3. Batman
            Batman series

The Square-Jawed Sentiment: They told me there was nothing out there, nothing to fear. But the night my parents were murdered I caught a glimpse of something. I've looked for it ever since. I went around the world, searched in all the shadows. And there is something out there in the darkness, something terrifying, something that will not stop until it gets revenge... Me.

            2. Gandalf
The Lord of the Rings series

The Square-Jawed Sentiment: It is in Men that we must place our hope.

            1. Jason Bourne
            The Bourne series

The Square-Jawed Sentiment: I can tell you the license plate numbers of all six cars outside. I can tell you that our waitress is left-handed and the guy sitting up at the counter weighs two hundred fifteen pounds and knows how to handle himself. I know the best place to look for a gun is the cab of the gray truck outside, and at this altitude, I can run flat out for a half mile before my hands start shaking. Now why would I know that? How can I know that and not know who I am?

Of your villains, I haven't seen 7, 9, 6 and most of 8. The ones I have seen, I actually liked the bad guys in those movies, so I guess I agree, though my order might be different.

Of your heroes, I haven't seen The Departed Or Wolverine (but I have seen the good X-Men movies and #3, so it's all good :P), but I like your list.... Though my order my be different.

Dell, you know I love you. This was an excellent read, going through each year I could remember exactly where I was when I saw certain movies, both physically and the stage of my life that I was in.

Good shit, or should I say, typical Dell.

I take it you haven't seen The Room yet? If you had, it would have easily topped your So Bad It's Awesome list, because there's no other way to describe it. It's been called "The Citizen Kane of Bad Movies", but I prefer to think of Citizen Kane as "The Room of good movies".

As for your top 25, I really can't disagree with any of it, at least the ones that I've seen. My top five would probably be Oldboy, City of God, Children of Men, Memento and Departed in some order. Oddly enough, I've never seen Requiem for a Dream despite owning 3 copies (girlfriend's mom is in mental health and she confiscates f'd up movies from her druggie clients).

Guess I should get on that, as well as the rest of these I haven't seen.

Social commentary is nothing new to director Spike Lee. What is new is that here, he does so through the guise of satire. It takes dead aim at hip hop, the malt liquor industry and the “black” sitcoms of the W.B. and UPN that were popular at the time. Ironically, it’s a Wayans brother in the lead role (Spike has occasionally clashed with the Wayans over ideology). Michael Rappaport is also outstanding. Sadly, many of Spike’s barbs are still relevant…ahem…cough…cough… Tyler Perry…ahem…cough…cough.
this movie is one that i think has fallen through the cracks as a "great" movie. lots of people will list city of god, departed and the like but this is one that has just been forgotten about. its been a couple years since i've seen it and i'm guilty of what i'm talking about, but i plan on heading to the video store and renting this for sure this weekend as we are supposed to get almost a foot of snow, so what better time to hole up with some great movies!

It's Spike Lee and it is definitely an "in your face" type of movie - both of those tend to rub people the wrong way. It worked for me, though.

The 1990s blessed us...and cursed us with CGI. Stunts that could never be performed were now possible, helping lead to the boom of superhero movies, by the way. Movie monsters and alien beings could now be fully realized without the aid of rubber suits and expanded the range of appearances these characters could take on, exponentially.

In the decade just ended, CGI is often overdone and if the budget isn't quite right (or at least the use of it) it can be done rather poorly. Occasionally, a cgi character makes us love him/her because through the pixels we can sense something ultimately human about them. In other cases, we they're are designed so masterfully it's easy to believe that what you're seeing is the real deal. Oh, I've included CGI characters from live-action movie. With that in mind, these are...

Dell's Favorite CGI Characters of the Decade

                            10. The Hulk
                            The Incredible Hulk

                            9. General Grievous
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith

                            8. Hogsqueal
                            The Spiderwick Chronicles

                            7. The Cloverfield Monster
                            Cloverfield

                            6. Treebeard
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy

                            5. Sonny
                            I, Robot

                            4. Bumblebee
                            Transformers Series

                            3. Yoda
                            Star Wars Series

                            2. King Kong
                            King Kong

                            1. Gollum
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy

And some almost cgi characters. These were hybrids, so to speak. They were actually played by real people but enhanced with lots of CGI (or not).

                            Davy Jones
                            Pirates of the Caribbean Series

                            Mystique
                            X-Men Trilogy

                            Pale Man
                            Pan's Labyrinth

how could we forget Christopher Johnson from District 9. Best CGI Ive seen for 45 million dollar budget.

Good call on the guy from Spiderwick Chronicles.

The Incredible Hulk was 10x better then that POST Ang Lee hulk. Sucks that movie didnt do as well. Dont think we'll get a sequel.

                              Very nice list.
