    PBS Documentary "Copyright Criminals"

Anyone happen to catch the excellent documentary PBS aired a few nights ago called Copyright Criminals? It was a pretty dope piece about the art of sampling in rap music as you got views from both sides of the fence....here it is for anyone who missed it

I'm at work now but I can't wait to check this out when I get back.

I did a college paper for my Mass Media Law class on hip-hop sampling.

            Solid post man

Very interesting all around and does raise a lot of questions about law and sampling, etc.

On a side note anybody know the name of the instrumental/song at 5:05 in video two? I heard it and it just flew right over my head.

I did. Very solid and its pretty crazy how detailed it is and all it takes. And sucks that drummer gets absolutely no credit. Someone needs to cut him a fat fucking check pronto.

Nice documentary. It's definitely interesting to hear differing views on the issue.

I'll have to check it out. Our Media Law teacher played a bunch of sampled hip-hop songs one day, she called "I Wonder" Kanye doing karaoke, and she was right.

But anyways the song they wrote has a guitar solo and come to find out they cannot sell the music without paying some type of royalty fees to one band strictly on a timing pattern that is consistent with another song.

Anyways Here I will post a video. I don't have the recorded version of the song on hand so its gonna have to be a live one and the video isn't good and because it is live and they are poor they didn't have access to the effects. But anyways I'm posting 2 samplings of the song and I want someone to name the song and timing issue as the reason of why this song cannot be produced. It gets so ridiculous even when people aren't blatantly trying to copy the original song and it ends up a mere coincidence. One is a full band version and the other a version where the drummer was out of state and they used a drum machine but here goes:

I know the voices are unbearable at times but the music is what I am wanting you to look for lol.
Forgive me if Im way off base because I dont listen to rock music much but it sounds like the opening riff of Marilyn Mansons "Beautiful People"

Then you'll love I Wonder by Labadi Safri (or something like that, I came to class high that day and sans notebook because I knew we were just watching music vids) because it's basically the exact same song. Safri is also the guy whom Eminem and Dre sampled for Hi, My Name Is.
