yeah. I think the wire is really the best television show ever made, with breaking bad being the only other show that deserves to be in that conversation. you do have to truck through some boring stuff to get to the good stuff. but Season 3 is probably the best, and after watching the first 2 seasons this is when you start to realise the layers. each season builds on the previous.

by the time i finished the show, i went back and rewatched it. i LOVED season 1 and 2 because I knew where the characters were headed and it was awesome to see how they develop. What you will realise about the show is that everything matters. the most minor characters and details are relevent to later seasons. this girl is a great example:

in season 3, you see her buying an 8 ball. in season 4, she comes in to buy cigarettes from old face andre. in season 5, she opens with a brilliant speech at an NA meeting. it's little stuff like that, that you learn to appreciate about The Wire. this is why i could never get into The Sopranos, because there were too many 1 off episodes that didn't matter to the overall plot, whereas The Wire is a 5 season masterpiece, one complete story.

Is there anywhere on DTV or Netflix streaming to catch it from the beginning ?

Season 1 is pretty good, Season 2 is horribad, Season 3 is way better than season 2 (probably on par with season 1), Season 4 is orgasm-of-the-century good, Season 5 is a little down, but greater than 1/3 IMO.

              4>5 >1=3 >>>>>>Fecal Matter > 2.

              Shiiiiiiiiiet.

For me, season 1 was a bit of a bear, particularly at the beginning because it at times felt like you were starting at page 200 of a 500 page novel. All of these characters you could tell had incredible depth, it just felt like you didn't get to see it. Still, well written stuff. It starts to pick up towards the end, and then for me, Season 2 was the hook. I don't know how people can say it was horrible. I thought it was fantastic. Personally, I think I'd go:

                  4 > 2 > 3 > 1 > 5

And 5 was still really good.

I think the thing with 2 was the fact that on season 1, you got this street thing, where people are really focusing on it, especially with how slow it started off..and then you got season 2. Which was almost a complete deviation. The focus of the docks was good, but i think it deviated away from the story. Season 5's story was probably the worst though.
