    The Last Exorcism

Joining the huge swath of horrible-to-disgusting-to-downright pants-shittingly terrifying films of this genre comes...

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmrSR5O9QXc"]The Last Exorcism[/ame]

Shot in a faux-documentary style, the Eli Roth-backed (yeah, that Eli Roth) film focuses on the final days of a preacher as he attempts to cure a woman who may or may not be possessed by a demon.

    Hilarity ensues.

The trailer is literally just the girl performing self mutilation and breaking her own bones. That isn't remotely scary, all I could think of was how will she even be able to walk when she isn't possessed because her spine would be all kinds of messed up.

This type of movie was done better with the original "the Exorcist" and "The Exorcisim of Emily Rose" for the simple fact that the original was a film done on a subject never seen before in mainstream media...

The latter was scary because the actress who performed in the movie really did most of what you see.

I'm seeing "The Last Exorcism" on Roth cred and a love of batshit crazy happening myself.

could be good based on the role of the actual exorcist being a non believer.

The Exorcist scared the piss out of me when I saw it. I was about 12 when I did, watched in the living room in the dark... mistake on my part. Couldnt sleep for shit that night, and the following nights. So, since then I've been afraid of this stuff. Well, not afraid, but it has an "effect" on me.

I still dont know if I believe in being possessed. Can that really happen?

I might check this out when it hits DVD. But I wont go out of my way to see it.

Just got back from seeing this.

DON'T CLICK IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT YET:

Buzzman is correct in the assumption that the Protagonist is a preacher who's lost his faith.

As a result, he still preaches to a congregation but sees it as a more of a sideshow performance.

Case in point, the man performs a card trick in one of his sermons.

As the story progresses, we see the final case of said preacher as he investigates a supposed possession with a camera crew in tow...

The reason being? The preacher wishes to debunk the process of Exorcism after hear how one particular exorcism ended in tragedy.

Boo scares occur and in the end we get a plot twist that feels slightly forced but makes sense with certain clues we get in the second act.

The town's church is secretly run by a Satanic Cult (you hear about this not 10 minutes into the film, but like the preacher, we cast it aside as hearsay) that worships demons.

They use possessed girl in the film as part of a ritual (the town's hospital mentions that the possessed girl is pregnant... we are lead to think that it's either a coffee shop employee's or the father of the girl's... it's neither).

The preacher is last seen walking towards a gout of flames spewing into the night sky from which he presume is his last moments.

The boom mic operator working with the camera man is captured and hacked to pieces.

              The camera man is decapitated.

              Skip this one.
