The wife of one of Walt's old buddies/partners in college that started Gray Matter. They offered to pay for Walt's treatments when Skyler told them about the cancer. Walt & Gretchen seemed to have some sort of thing going on back in the day.

i went back and watched the episode Bullet Points from season 4 where that flashback was from. What i couldnt find was any scene reference showing gale giving a book to walt. We are assuming it came from gale because of that note....and that is the obvious assumption

if it turned out he got it from gretchen that would be a little far fetched imo. To coincidental for it to have come from her. Plus the hand writting looks identical. It would be nice to know where Gale is from because he spells honor with the french/canadian our - honour

I don't see where Gale and Walt were ever close enough where Gale would have given him anything let alone written a personalized note in. Walt was smart enough to tie up every loose end surrounding Gale but kept an autographed book from him in the bathroom? C'mon.

I do like the Gretchen theory as well as the cancer being back theory. The next nine months are going to be horrible and AMC doesn't help the matter by sullying the BB time slot with a farm drama sponsored by KIA with an occasional zombie sighting or two when it's out of season.
