Batman
Goblinslayer special. He'll either be happy to see it mentioned, or pissed that it just missed the top ten.
Iconic.
It's funny what inspires genius. What? Your trivia fact of the day: This is the first song Prince learned to play.Comment

kind of surprised by the lack of modern day shows on this list. i see some of these titles and its just depressing. maybe its because i hated most, if not all of these shows.
shows i would have.
Seinfeld and curb your enthusiasm. they were under 10 seconds but had the power to make you immediately know what you are watching. seinfelds was great because in the early days they used a new stand up routine every show to keep things fresh.
The Sopranos because it had a great intro song and scenes from around NY/NJ that was perfect for this show. one thing the sopranos did extremely well was merge the gangster lifestyle into everyday family life. It basically bridged the gap to make the watcher feel like they could identify with the show and being a gangster. This intro also did that by putting you in the role of tony soprano for a nice little drive around the city
Six Feet Under - if ever there was a jingle that represented the creepy, bizarre nature of a show, this is it.Comment

Of the shows listed already, I always liked the Munsters intro. Don't know why, really.Comment

The Simpsons
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpEcTyIK_MQ[/ame]
The Simpsons has been running for over 20 years, longer than many VSN'ers have been alive. This is the new HD version of the opening sequence, which added in fringe characters (Otto, DISCO STU, Grandpa Simpson has been added to Marge's car, etc), and has a few additional scenes. It still has Bart with the blackboard, Marge at the supermarket, and the couch gag, and at the end, they have given the family a new HD televsion.
I chose this opening over the more classic version, to illustrate how long the show has been runnning, and how it's survived into the HD era.
That's actually bullshit. I chose this version, because FOX is extra douchey when it comes to youtube, and it was pretty much the only decent quality video of the show's intro that hasnt been deleted. I would have strongly prefered to use something from an earlier season, when people were still actually watching the show and it still had it's edge.Comment

The Growing Pains theme is one of my guilty pleasures. I belt that shit out all the time, just a fun song to sing if you have a couple of people with you.
Fresh Prince not being on the list is a shock, it's an icon for kids in my generation. Nonetheless, you have done great work with this. There's only one more show I'm waiting to see whether or not you include. The only hint I'll provide is that the main character is a milf.
And there's a certain show set in New York City that I am sure is in the top 5. It has Chris Noth in it, and I'm not talking about Sex and the City.Comment

The Brady Bunch
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pM-0Pwgr7-E[/ame]
Yes, it's incredibly corny. But it's the fucking Brady Bunch, and you can make the argument that it's the most famous show intro ever. Catchy theme? Check. Unique idea? Check. Iconic? Check. What do you want from me? It belongs.
The above is the rare Season 1 open that you never see in syndication, meaning only jeffx saw it live. Peformed by THE PEPPERMENT TROLLY COMPANY. Yes, THE PEPPERMINT TROLLY COMPANY.
The following is Season 2, the first version whene the song is performed by the cast:

Here is Season 4, which is probably the version of the song with the melody people are most familiar with, as this was a popular season in sydication, and for some reason they used this open for other seasons in syndication as well:

Season 5 saw the males starting to grow afro's, making me wish the show continued long enough to see Peter become a hippy, Greg die in 'Nam, and Dad come out of the closet and run off to San Francisco in a Volkswagon Buggy with some twink:

The worst part of "The Brady Bunch" was not the campy storylines, or the awful acting. It was the fact it spawned this total piece of shit ripoff some 25 years later:

What an awful, awful era for sitcoms, especially on ABC, with drivel like this and Family Matters. It always bothered me how fake and cheesy that rollercoaster shot at the end looks, with the lame early CGI ocean waves. WHO THE FUCK BUILDS A ROLLERCOASTER ON A BEACH, ANYWAY?Comment

The Addams Family
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFD7KGBUtKI[/ame]
As a child of the 80's, the 60's shows were what was shown in syndication, and this particular intro would scare the shit out of me. I thought John Astin was going to climb through my TV and murder me everytime. Look at the demented look on that man's face. Chilling stuff to a 5 year old W2BTD, peeking with one eye over a throw pillow on his mom's couch.Comment

Gilligan's Island

...and the rest!
Season 1 gives a giant middle finger to The Professor and Mary Anne, who don't get mentioned in the credits. This was changed in later seasons. Here is the version most people are more familiar with:

Before I do the top 5, there a five shows that I intended to include, two of which have been mentioned by others, and one of which I listed in my 'snubbed' post. They simply got lost in my notes last night. Let's call them 31-35, although all 5 likely would have replaced 5 others that made the list.
Ok, onto #6...Comment
