I only have 4 records in my collection right now, once I start collecting an income I'll definitely be purchasing more.

Comparing a vinyl copy of, say, 'Quadrophenia' to its equivalent computer file format is like comparing a fine Cognac to a vodka enema. The end result is essentially the same but the experience is completely different.Z(u, w) = Z0(w)[1-exp{-b(w)u}]

What is the preferred style of storage for you guys? I currently have mine on the bottom shelf of my bookshelf, but I'm running out of space, I think I might just go with wooden crates or something until I have enough space to build my own shelves.Originally posted by mgoblue2290If you want to win, put Drew in.Comment

Milk crates if you want to be cheap. Ikea has shelves that serve as great record shelves if you want to be cheap, but stylish.

Ah, lovely, lovely records...
Both are reissues, I missed the chance to get 'Wrong' before NMN deleted all their stuff from Alternative Tentacles and I dread to think how much a 1972 copy of the Delia Derbyshire LP would cost.
Still, I'm more of a listener than an antiques collector so OPs don't really bother me that much. I'd rather a brand new, 180g virgin pressing for a semi-reasonable price rather than spend £200 on a dog-eared, ring-worn bit of scratched, flimsy plastic.Z(u, w) = Z0(w)[1-exp{-b(w)u}]

It's not perfect but it saw a big chunk of my collection through my college years.
If you're tempted to take on a little DIY project though it didn't take me long to build a load of these last year.
Just a big sheet of 18mm plywood cut into 13"x13" and 13"x14" panels, fix them together with a bit of wood glue and some screws - best to use both, records are surprisingly heavy - then a good sand down and finish with some paint and/or varnish - gloss for the inside to get a nice glide when sliding your records in and whatever your missus thinks matches the soft furnishings on the outside.
The good thing with them is you can use them anywhere. Stack them 8 foot high from floor to ceiling, put them all around the house wherever you can find a bit of space or just fix them to the wall with some heavy duty mirror brackets. Just remember to insulate the back of them if you're fixing them to an exterior wall, I used a square of underfloor insulation stuck onto a sheet of hardboard and then tacked it onto the back.
Basic but they get the job done and I can take them with me anywhere I move in the future.

I had two crates of records but I left them in my moms house and in TX heat...they warped. Most all of them were Hip Hop LP & EP records. Some of them that I still have but haven't listened to in 5 years include:

I'm taking a trip to my local store in the next week to splurge for myself. I'll be sure to post them here. It's going to be good.Originally posted by mgoblue2290If you want to win, put Drew in.Comment

Still have to order Sufjan's new one as well. Think I'm going to have to give it a rest until Christmas after buying all these.Originally posted by mgoblue2290If you want to win, put Drew in.Comment
