My girlfriend bought me the first 4 books to read while I've been sick. Actually haven't even had enough energy to read much. Started the first book yesterday. Part of me wants to watch the show before starting the second book.. but part of me wants to get to that third book lol.

If you read it first, you'll be sucked in more. Also, you'll have a better impression of who everyone is on the show. There are so many characters from so many houses that its hard for the TV show to fully acquaint you with everyone. The book does a way better job. You'll still love Starks and hate Lannisters, but it's all the other people that you'll want to know.
