Most surprising artist/band: Kanye West (was expecting an old school hip-hop album and ended up with MBDTF, plus the good friday songs and signing my boy Pusha T were surprising)
Most disappointing artist/band: Lil Wayne (not a huge fan but him being in jail for the majority of the year and releasing that I'm Not a Human Being LP was very disappointing from the "best rapper alive")
Artist/band that grew on you: Wiz Khalifa (never really liked dude until the B.A.R. and Kush&OJ mixtapes)
Artist/band you can't see the hype about: Vampire Weekend

Most surprising artist/band: Curren$y (I listened to him before, but where the fuck did PT and PT2 come from?), Shad (finally gave him a listen this year), Freddie Gibbs (same as Shad)
Most disappointing artist/band: Eminem (I overrated Recovery big time though I still think it's okay), Lil' Wayne (kind of a meh pick, since I didn't expect much from him this year, but still), Charles Hamilton (another meh pick, but the way he's dropped off from The Pink Lavalamp really upsets me)
Artist/band that grew on you: Curren$y (again, I liked him before this year, but he really was awesome in '10)
Artist/band you can't see the hype about: Big Sean (first I heard of him was Finally Famous 3 and I thought it was wack)

Favorite artist/band: Sufjan Stevens. New album and EP were fantastic.
Most surprising artist/band: Sufjan again, new album is unlike anything he's ever done.
Most disappointing artist/band: Los Campesinos! or The Hold Steady. They both can still put on great shows, but new albums were a let down.
Artist/band that grew on you: Broken Social Scene. I've always liked them, but I've started to love them this year. Good new album too.
Artist/band you can't see the hype about: Mumford & Son. They're okay, but nothing else.
Favorite album: Sufjan, The Age of Adz
Most surprising album: Foals - Total Life Forever. Always liked them, but wow.
Most disappointing album: Los Campesinos! - Romance is Boring
