I would have done the exact opposite of what Casey Affleck did.....that mother didn't give 2 shits about that girl. She sets up a date w/o a baby sitter and doesn't even know the name of the kid's favorite toy. She doesn't know her kid and never will, even after making all that show of desperation throughout the movie about her.
I would have left the kid with Freeman and his wife and sent birthday and christmas gifts every year.
