Bright Eyes - The People's Key

Not sure how many people here enjoy music outside of hip-hop, but I know there are a few. Bright Eyes' new album, The People's Key releases on February 15, but NPR has put up an album stream which I think everyone should check out above (there are also less legitimate means of acquiring it now).

    Tracklist:
    01 Firewall
    02 Shell Games
    03 Jejune Stars
    04 Approximate Sunlight
    05 Haile Selassie
06 A Machine Spiritual (In the People's Key)
    07 Triple Spiral
    08 Beginner's Mind
    09 Ladder Song
10 One for You, One for Me

After giving the whole album a listen, it's definitely got a fuller sound than most of Bright Eyes previous releases, which makes sense considering it's now a full band. It's also the first official Bright Eyes album since the release of Cassadaga in 2007 (although Conor Oberst has released four albums since then under various monikers).

The theme of the album has a mystical quality, as evidenced by the opening track "Firewall", which contains a lengthy spoken-word introduction and many of the songs have electronic instrumentation in the vein of an earlier Bright Eyes release, Digital Ash in a Digital Urn.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my first listen through and am excited about the prospects of getting a physical release.

    Tracks I'd Recommend:
"Shell Games", "Haile Selassie", "Triple Spiral", "One for You, One for Me"

Actually downloaded this in december off a site Anthony showed me to. The album cover caught my eye.

I enjoyed it for the most part. One for you, One for me was probably my favorite off of it. Ill give the album another listen now that it is releasing soon.

Strange, the site I check first leaked it two days ago.

"One for You, One for Me" was a surprise because it seems like a lot of albums close in a really disappointing manner. Like you, it may be my favorite track (although "Haile Selassie" is fantastic as well).

I have 2 of their albums, don't keep up with the band though.

Which ones (if you don't mind me asking)?

Lifted or The Story Is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground

            and

I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning. I found them through this CD while reading Rolling Stone.

I think Lifted is the most overrated album of his. I'm Wide Awake is incredible and the first one I ever listened to.

I'd also recommend Fevers and Mirrors and Cassadaga if we're talking strictly Bright Eyes material.
