Just watched a movie from '09 called "Summer Wars"

Animes are naturally out there so it's rare that one can have a real epic(Akira and Princess Mononoke for example) feel to it, but this one does it pretty good. To contrast that, almost the entire movie takes place inside of one house, similar to "Tokyo Story", if you've seen it before. Weird blend of themes that somehow works.
With this and "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time", this director is making a name for himself.Comment

I should finish Bebop by tonight. After that I'm starting Samurai Champloo and then Gundam Wing unless I find something else.
I'll see if I can think of or find anything similar to Champloo while I'm watching it.Comment

haha nice nice.
Jhen I don't know how good your memory is but episodes 3 and 4 were "Hellhounds for hire". It was about that samurai clan who peacefully ruled over a town until the Yakuza came and started to set up territory. The one with the dice game and the little kid whos father kill himself to save him etc....
If you'll remember both Mugen and Jin were pretty much hired as bodyguard. Jin by the Yakuza and Mugen sorta by the boy.
I just realized that most of that story came from the old movie "Yojimbo"(bodyguard).

Some of the dialogue even. In Champloo when the kid is first getting beat up by those guys in that restaurant Mugen turns to him and says "You wanna hire me as a body guard? Watch what I can do". The same thing the main character on Yojimbo said.
I wonder how many other episodes are based on old movies/stories. This is one of the few I'd be able to notice though.Comment

Finished Champloo last night, 'twas very good. Most of the series was filler episodes but they still were very easy to get through. I thought they might eventually get boring, but they never did.
My only problem....
The main girl, boy was she annoying. I managed to feel nothing for her the entire series. When Jin and Mugen were getting beat at the end it was kinda sad, but I couldn't have cared less about the girl. Even when the guy just walked in and killed her dad infront of her, lol.
The should've been traveling with a more badass girl, like that blind one for instance.
I got like 3 or 4 series I'm gonna chose from next, not sure which one I'm going with yet.Comment
