I don't know about a "great" story, but it was awesome for what it was - an over-the-top action/thriller.

I guess what I was saying is it was a great story for what it is. It's your typical kidnappers that kidnapped a family member and didn't realize the husband/dad is a badass. We've seen that story 100 times. I thought the European slave trade was portrayed very well.

I started this year with a plan, that over the next 12 months I would watch 365 movies that I had never seen before.

Then I realised that that is nearly impossible time-wise so I decided to watch 250 films in the next 12 months that I had never seen before.

Then I realised that by averaging about 12 rental movies a month and including the 25 or so DVDs that I've bought but never watched I'm still bottoming out at about 170 films.

So the final target is 250 movies between 1st January 2011 and 31st December 2011, preferably ones that I have never seen before but also acceptable are films that I've only seen once; haven't seen in the last five years or have seen but can't remember much of what happened in it. There should be no more that about 10 movies all year that I have seen so many times that I could act them out.

So far this year I've seen...

Breaker Morant (Bruce Beresford 1980) :4star:
Bee Movie (Steve Hickner - 2007 - It was New Year's Day, it was on the TV and I was too hungover to try to find the remote) :2star:
The Man Who Never Was (Ronald Neame 1956) :3star:
The Fisher King (Terry Gilliam 1991) :4star:
The Mission (Roland Joffe 1986) :4star:
There Will Be Blood (Paul Thomas Anderson 2007) :5star:
        A Chump at Oxford (Alfred J. Goulding 1940) :4star:
Gangs of New York (Martin Scorsese 2002) :3star:
        Spartacus (Stanley Kubrick 1960) :5star:
My Cousin Vinny (Jonathan Lynn 1992) :4star:
A Matter of Life and Death (Michael Powell 1946) :4star:
Fear and Desire (Stanley Kubrick 1953) :2star:
        Lolita (Stanley Kubrick 1962) :5star:
        Coraline (Henry Selick 2009) :4star:
Cool Hand Luke (Stuart Rosenberg 1967) :4star:
Dirty Harry (Don Siegel 1971) :3star:
        Bullitt (Peter Yates 1968) :4star:
        Vertigo (Alfred Hitchcock 1958) :5star:
The Cocoanuts (Robert Florey 1929) :3star:
The Outlaw Josey Wales (Clint Eastwood 1976) :5star:
The Getaway (Sam Peckinpah 1972) :3star:
Lost in La Mancha (Keith Fulton/Louis Pepe 2002) :4star:
The Rise and Rise of Michael Rimmer (Kevin Billington 1970) :4star:

I'll update the list every month or so.

this movie didnt take itself too seriously, i guess its an action comedy. john malkovich was pretty funny in some of the scenes.

Winter's Bone was not really my type of movie.

                        Trainspotting was good.

I got a bunch of friends to watch City of God with me, I felt accomplished.

It also doesn't hurt that Emma Stone farts charisma either.
