Pride of the Yankees, starring Gary Cooper as Lou Gehrig

Did nothing to dispel my belief that everybody was a shitty actor prior to the 1970's, and they get worse the farther back you go. Laughably hokey performances all around, especially from the kids, who were horrid.

Yep, a few years back. I'm not a huge fan but there's no denying it's the "coolest" movie ever made.

        End of Watch 9/10

I'm not sure what it took me so long to watch this but I noticed it's finally on Netflix instant so the wife and I watched it. Excellent portrayal of what goes on in police work, especially the 'behind the scenes' stuff like the banter between the partners. That shit was spot on. Some of the stuff was grossly over the top but still well done.

I read on IMDb that Gyllenhal rode along on 12hr shift for five months with the LAPD and his first shift he WITNESSED a homicide. If that is true, that shit is crazy. I'm guessing it was more like he maybe saw someone die as a result of a homicide but it's hard to imagine he actually witnessed the crime. But who knows? I also read that a lot of their banter was ad lib'd. They did an excellent job if so. It also said that when they rear ended the mini van near the end that was not meant to happen. The ABS had been disabled to to it causing camera shake and the road had recently been paved. Pena was actually driving and when he slammed on the brakes the car slid much further than expected and the air bags deployed. I actually think that added more realism and I'm guessing the directors did too because they left it in.

Marked For Death - ** Stars

1990 brought us Skinny Segal as he fought the entire Jamaican drug syndicate with the help of Keith David (from such luminary titles as They Live, The Thing and Pitch Black) and Tom Wright (a dude who's guest-starred in enough TV episodes to fill a DVD Box Set).

As it turns out, Segal's adept at breaking most bones in the human body and is handy with a katana.

Keith David's good at shooting things.

Tom Wright's good at snitching and being the Red Shirt at the end of the movie.

Still, the movie's not terrible enough to warrant an "avoid" once you get to the Jewelry Store scene...

Watched Gideon's Army, an HBO documentary about public defender's in the south.

Great doc, paints a clear picture of what people in that industry have to deal with on a day-to-day basis. Goes into specific cases for three attorney's specifically, pulls on the heart strings.

I still don't get it. One of the least compelling movies I've ever seen.

                  Newman?
                  Gleason?

This movie is definitely a guilty pleasure of mine.

Also, why is this so similar to Alien?
I hope you figure out why in the last half hour.

That movie was atrocious. The script was absolutely ruined by a re-write. Alot of the dumbassery and question marks were gone in the original script.
Once you read what it actually was about you realize none of that shit was actually in the movie. It's bizarre.
Best reason to have a license.

Gotta respect the stylistic influence it gave movies from Goodfellas to Amelie. But just like Amelie it starts off great, then puts me to sleep.

                        The Way Way Back

Was pleasantly surprised. Rockwell is great, the rest of the cast is great, it's got a lot of humor but also hits that perfect "coming of age" nerve that just gives you the feelz.

It didnt have any negative impact on it, but I wish that there was slightly more interactions between the main kid and his "love" interest neighbor.

DC seems to raise the bar every time they release a new Animated feature, this time adapting Geoff John's Flashpoint crossover event
Easily the darkest entry in the DCAU, it's true to the original story in almost every way, easily one the better offering's from DC's always stellar animated features..
