Anyone who disagrees either is a huge Kanye hater or believes all rap music sounds the "same". He's already had a huge impact in the game today.
He is a huge star within his bubble.

There are no artists today who are stars beyond their genre. That's just how fragmented music has become in this era. If there is, I can not think of one.

Somebody like Brittany Spears will be better remembered 40 years from now. Much broader appeal, much bigger star.

Eminem. As lame as I think his shit is these days, he and Jay Z have the best shot at this imo

Kanye West samples everything from Prog Rock(King Crimson) to soul(Smokey Robinson) Spoken Word(Gil Scott-Heron) and Indie Rock(Bon Iver).

He gets respect from both hardcore hip hop fans and the indie community.
He was the headlining act of Coachella this year and closed with a hour and a half performance. People who just got done listening to their small indie bands all gathered to hear Kanye West.

At the same time he could hop on a hip hop stage and out rap Jay-Z and Eminem at a hip hop concert.

Kanye West is in no "bubble" like you said.

Woy and Shark, i understand ur man crush with Kanye but in my honest opinion his music is not as catchy as a "Dirt off your shoulders" or "Real slim Shady". Granted i loved his first two albums but after you go full retard and have an agenda in the 3rd 4th and 5th albums you get to the point where u stop writing songs to get remembered but to take on the problems of the current day and age.

On an unrelated note, The Beastie Boys were a part of my generations seeing as im going on me 25th birthday. They will always be remembered as the first "White Rappers" and really changing the game.

                    Coldplay
U2 (although they aren't really this generation)
                    Radiohead
                    Jay-Z
                    Kanye West

Lil Wayne definitely will not be. I wrote a speech my senior year of high school about how bad commercial hip-hop has gotten throughout the years, and this was the beginning of my conclusion: "Do you expect to be 40 years old, looking through the old albums you had as a teenager and start listening to Lil Wayne’s Lollipop as if it’s some sort of a classic? I didn’t think so". I still feel this way now.

Nobody has said Dave Matthews yet? Really?

You all are focusing too much on rap and too little on the rock of today or the past 10 years. We all know I hate Nirvana, but Nirvana will be remembered, as well as Pearl Jam and I'd even say the Goo Goo Dolls.

The music industry is so huge that its hard for an artist to become huge. Theres not a Beatles of the generation. I can't think of a rock band of this generation that everyone says that they've heard. In the future theres probably going to be even more music than these days so I doubt people are really going to remember whats going on now other than a few select pop artist.

Eminem didn't go full retard? Everything after his first two albums are fucking awful. Jay-Z? Hasn't made a quality album since The Black Album. Artistic legacy isn't made on a couple of catchy songs Leftwich, but even if it is, Kanye has had enough top 10 hits to make your argument asinine.

That's because musical taste shifts with time. I bet people in the 60's were saying the same thing as we shifted into hippie rock, or from rock into disco, or disco into new wave, etc.
