Almost the entire video is shots of the dwarfs in costume. Really cool stuff. Also Christopher Lee at the very end!

I'm one who read the Hobbit first.

I actually saw the 1970's cartoon first, then because of my interest my father read the hobbit to me when I was like 5 yrs old. Then I saw the LOTR cartoon, lost interest for a while after that.

In I think 7th grade I chose the Hobbit as a book report, mostly because I remembered the story and felt I could get a good book report. That was back in '90-'91. Then when the LOTR movies were coming out I read the LOTR books, and re-read the Hobbit.

BTW - I had a poster of Middle-Earth on my wall at seven years old. That's how big of a nerd I am for the story.

PS - Thorin Oakenshield looks BAD ASS!!!

have read The Hobbit and LOTR countless time...read the Hobbit first tho. I tried reading The Silmarillion but the damn thing reads like a textbook. It provides some interesting background info and insight into the big players in the realm but its not a particularly entertaining read imo. Looking forward to The Hobbit movie.

And yes, Thorin Oakenshield looks like one bad mutha

                      Sort of a rough timeline.

                      28. Biblo only takes two chests of loot, goes home. The end.

I think a clean place to end the first flick, is when the Dwarves are taken prisoner by the Wood Elves. There are so many events to cut between the two movies. But at least this is a safe place to leave the party, but there's still some sense of urgency and drama. Then again, maybe that's a little to close to the battle of five armies.

There are a lot of places to cut between the movies though. There are so many individual events that he could chop it up anywhere. But I think Jackson will try to find a scene to end with drama. After Biblo escapes from Gollums cave, maybe when the party gets trapped by wolves, or possibly just before they get caught by spiders. There's just a lot of places to do it.

I'm very curious if Jackson is going to include Beorn. Beorn IMO is a lot like Tom Bombadil, who was completely left out of the trilogy, and one of the characters I was pissed off about not being in the flicks. Beorn is kind of important to the end of the battle of five army's though, so he better be included!

I can't wait to see what Smaug looks like! The trolls will be fun to see also, and I wonder how the goblins will look. The Dwarves look good so far.

Is it me, or does Bilbo look too big compared to the Dwarves? I always thought of Bilbo being nearly 2/3's the size all the dwarves.

I liked The Silmarillion much more than The Hobbit. The Silmarillion is like a collection of short stories told in a linear fashion. There is a little overlap between stories, but they are mostly told in a stand-alone fashion. It was interesting to me how Tolkien conceived of the beginning of Middle Earth, Melkor/Morgoth has a much more active role in the stories, the story of the fall of Numenor was also interesting, etc.

Benedict Cumberbatch is voicing Sauron/the Necromancer, and according to Cumberbatch's quote Sauron might actually be at the battle of five armies in the movie. :fad:

I’m playing Smaug through motion-capture and voicing the Necromancer, which is a character in the Five Legions War or something which I’m meant to understand. He’s not actually in the original Hobbit.

When he says, "Five Legion War" he is referring to The Battle of Five Armies which is the final conflict in The Hobbit.
