First....thanks for all the posts above. I too read the "Hobbit" first. I remember seeing some signs (Real posters and signs) that said, "Bilbo Lives". This was at various times during the 70's and when I asked my parents what "that" was, I was told they didn't know. I was about 12 years old when I found the book and I immediately recoginised the name "Bilbo" from the signs. Absolutely fell in love with it and wanted to find out why those signs were out there and started doing research on it (not as easy then as now, lol). I found out who Tolkien was and how the 60's counter culture had fell in love with the whole works of the man. People started putting up those signs in NY and it spread. I eventually read the rest and truely STRUGGLED with the third due to long poems (elven songs) and his use of the various languages (he actually created those). But,,,I pushed through it and because of HIM.....got very much into D&D and RPG's in general. No WAY would I watch a movie that had THAT much detail as the original third of LOTR and Jackson has done a fantastic job with the series so far,,,,,can not wait to see these movies.

I loved it. I didn't really think it dragged on anywhere, and the scenery was even greater than the LOTR trilogy. I read the book once in like third or fourth grade years ago, so the movie was super nostalgic. A lot of the scenes were really well translated from the book as I imagined themComment
