I'm in the middle of a free trial but going to cancel it before I get charged after hearing this news.

I'm pretty disappointed that I'm going to have to get two plans if I want to keep getting both discs and streaming abilities. If they want to add plans that let people get strictly discs or only streaming, fine, but why eliminate the option for subscribers to get both at a discounted rate? Unless the selection improves, I'm probably going to drop my streaming plan.

        Still dirt cheap.

That 17$ was what 2 rentals at blockbuster ?

The price up until 2 years ago was 17-18 a month for 2-3 dvds , they added streaming for 17 hours.
They added unlimited streaming at no cost.
They added some absurdly cheap streaming only + 1 dvd for under 10$ a month ??
They also started allowing simultaneous streaming when before it was one device allowed at a time.
You can still rent burn and mail and come out way ,way ahead.

Now theyre just bringing it back up because these idiot studios and tech companies are trying to get a piece of the pie that will ensure we get less choice for more money down the line.

Netflix online selection is mediocre . WB 28 day delay on new releases has increased DVD sales. Once again good for 'us' is bad for 'them' and vice versa.

Sign of the times. Netflix imo has been a stellar company for a decade. Any bad decisions Ive heard about come directly form subscriber abuse (charging for lost dvds) or studios playing hardball.
Ill just dump the DVD option and keep streaming.
The tech blog outrage over Netflix imo shows once again just how uninformed and privileged people feel.
Best reason to have a license.

This I will agree to. Giving current subs a price break (even a temporary one) would have curtailed the bad press. But again having dealt with them for better part of a decade Ive never felt they were trying to pull one over or being "corporate" about anything.

I wonder how long the contract Netflix has with Wii and Xbox 360 is for... Switch costs might prove what saves Netflix.
