The Office Season 8

No, it's jumped the shark about 30 times and that finale I just watched would have gotten a newer show cancelled. It's the same with HIMYM, but at least they still have a few laughs mixed in and good writing. This show has NOTHING left. It used to be hilarious and witty, and now it's just coasting on it's old glory. The good characters they had are now either charicatures of themselves (Kevin, Andy) or sad shells (Jim, Dwight). It wouldn't be so bad if they tried. It's very obvious that they are just throwing crap at the wall at this point. The beauty of the old Office was that the writing could make them sitting in an Office doing essentially nothing entertaining (like the Office games). Since, we've had marriages, a baby, new boss, new company, noteworthy celeb tie-ins like Jack Black and Jim Carrey.
And when it's not that, it's just them trying to make Kevin look retarded or Dwight look crazy. It's like a teenager watched the show and wrote it around how the characters "came off", instead of the intricacies that made it/them great which previously came off effortlessly. The show hasn't made me laugh in years, and isn't just lightyears behind shows like The League. It's battling shows like Rules of Engagement for cookie-cutter supremacy (not a good thing).

I've laughed out loud exactly three times in 136 episodes of HIMYM. No one should ever use it as a barometer for even decent comedy and the fact that you do tells me bad things.
Your use of hyperbole is also quite annoying. Comparing it to Rules of Engagement? You should get your skull checked to see if there's a brain left in it.
And The League is hardly groundbreaking or even that good, really. It's solid - no more, no less.Comment

I thought the episode was funny, but maybe because I have been on so many "search committees" I found the interviews hilarious. That could just be me.
I appreciate sappisgod's emotion, but I don't think the Office is THAT bad. I thought its gotten better this year as the season went along.Comment

This show needs to be euthanized. Like yesterday. It's not even a case of "it's not what it used to be" anymore, it's just not any good by any measure. It's awful. It's Two and a Half Men before Sheen's ironic fame made it an actual punchline. A boring, 30-minute time waster devoid of anything resembling wit.

finally got around to watching the rest of this season. pretty sad seeing michael scott go.
i didnt care for spader. although i can see them molding his role into a small part when he replaces Jo
the only thing that will make this show work without michael scott is is Gervais takes his job
scott was this show. its like trying to replace ronald mcdonaldComment

The Office (US)
This start up tomorrownight so here is a thread.
Just reading through some stuff and just read Kathy Bates won't be back as Jo, CEO of Sabre-Dunder Mifflin. Robert California(James Spader) will be.
Also interested to see who the new manager will be.Comment

I thought Bates' character was fun and was a nice piece to put into some episodes. I just have a feeling the Robert California stuff will wear out really fast...especially over the course of 15 episodes.Comment
