I've seen Prince in concert three times - the Purple Rain concert in March 1985 at the Nassau Coliseum, and the Lovesexy concert in 1988/89 at Madisin Square Garden and later at the Coliseum. Nobody does it like Prince live.
That is stuff I need to get, I am not familiar with the B-Side stuff yet, but I expect it to be awesome since I love just about everything he did until the mid 90's.

"Graffiti Bridge" was pure and utter shit. It took "Purple Rain" and crapped all over it. Not too mentioned it took the entire city of Minneapolis and compressed it to a one block studio that eerily resembled the set for Tim Burton's "Batman." I'm not even fond of most of the music. I love Prince but I hate "GB".

Purple Rain wasn't a great movie - the acting and plot was very thin, but it's a masterpiece compared to the two films that followed. Both were shit, but I liked the soundtracks, especially "Parade". Parade sold less than 'Around the World in a Day', but the music is excellent. Prince was killing that bass on 'New Position'.

      I bought two bootleg Prince LPs in 1990. One was the infamous 'Black Album', the other 'Crucial with Miles Davis & Friends'. I've seen songs from the Black Album posted on YouTube, but I haven't checked for Crucial;

      Crucial Love(instrumental)
      Fantastic
      Crucial
      Break My Heart
      Sexual Suicide
      Girl in my Dreams
      Can't Stop
      We Can Funk
      Welcome 2 the Rat Race
      Witness
      Red Riding Hood

Can't Stop and We Can Funk would later wind up on Graffiti Bridge.

I've also heard the original version of 'Sex Shooter' with Vanity on lead. It owns the Apollonia version. It's too bad Prince & Vanity had a falling out before Purple Rain. It would have been a better movie with her in it.

I think Lovesexy is one of his most underrated albums. I love that album.

you are not alone in that thinking, however I have yet to see the light on that one, as I still don't get it.

I have to disagree with jeff on Vanity making Purple Rain a better movie. I've seen her in The Last Dragon & Action Jackson. I feel comfortable saying it wouldn't have made much difference if any at all.

I'm not a huge fan of Lovesexy either but do love a couple songs. To me his most underrated albums are Around the World in a Day, Cotroversy and The Symbol (no real title just the symbol he used in place of his name). Especially AtWiaD because it had the misfortune of being his 1st after Purple Rain. "America" is a flat out awesome song,. btw. Couldn't find a good version to post - maybe I'll try again.

I tried, but I couldn't get into 'Around the World in a Day'. I liked 'Parade' much better. To me, it's his most underrated LP.

And I actually liked the 'Batman' soundtrack. Of course, it can't compare to 'Purple Rain', but it's cool.

Yes, the 'Batman' soundtrack is underappreciated (aside from the dreadful 'Batdance'). It contains one of his best ballads...

Yeah I liked Batdance back when it came out in 89, but now it is by far worst track on album, I love trust, the future, party man, electric chair.

While getting deep into his discography the past couple years it has been my biggest surprise by way of being better than I expected coming in, where lovesexxy is biggest surprise in not being as good as I was expecting.

I went to Prince earlier this year. Got box tix for free. Was pretty awesome and I wouldn't even consider myself a Prince fan.

Of course we have to discuss the infamous 'Black Album' - hard-hitting, angry and funky. Listening to it, you get the feeling Prince was in a dark place. It's probably why he pulled it at the last minute(in Fall 1987) and later released Lovesexy in spring 1988.
