I guess I'm watching a different show than you guys. Season 1 was LOL funny. Season 2 was good but not as good as season 1. This season has been really disappointing to me.

I think it has a lot to do with the style of humor. I think this is pretty brilliant at what it is aiming to be, and in that regard I feel it is comparable to South Park. It's labeled as a comedy, but the show creators package it like a drama, so in the end it's almost depressing to watch.
Then again the writing and the acting is fantastic. Stevie J killed it again last night.

I will say this season has been much more "depressing" than the previous two seasons with all that's gone on. Like Nahste said though, the acting is just superb and it's still got all it's glorious quotes as it did when it first started. I'm still enjoying the shit out of it and will certainly be sad when it's gone.
Season I: 10-6 (NFC North Champions)
Season II: 9-7 (NFC North Champions)
Season III: 13-3 (NFC Champions)
Season IV: 11-5 (NFC North Champions)
Season V: 2-1

Twigg, it's a dark comedy. It's not supposed to be laugh-out-loud all the time. They do such a great job of making things funny, uncomfortable, and depressing all at the same time.
That bowling alley scene was ripped straight out of every cheesy show from the 90s and it was done with the perfect amount of Powers style.

Yeah I like how (similar to Trey Parker and Matt Stone), DGG and co. borrow heavily from certain tropes or cliches in drama and turn them on their head. It would make sense that a narcissistic, oblivious doofus like Kenny would try to emulate cheesy sports movies and 80s/90s TV shows, because that's probably the only human interaction he knows. Hence why he's always trying to give poignant speeches or make flashy entrances, and since the show is rooted in reality, they almost always fall flat.
Well said boys. This is possibly the smartest comedy on TV, outside of South Park. Jody Hill, DGG, Ben Best and Danny McBride have created something unlike any TV show out there. It's dark, it's depressing, there are hardly any redeeming characters, it's hilarious, it's obnoxious. They don't sugar coat anything. It's almost like... real life.
edit - you could say that the It's Always Sunny guys qualify, but at the end of the day, those guys aren't responsible for their actions, because they simply move on. Eastbound and Down always has repercussions for Kenny's actions. There is an actual story arc, with each episode relating to the other. I can't think of one comedy off the top of my head that uses full seasons to flesh out story and character arcs. Most comedies are stand alone for each episode.
Eastbound and Down is both a comedy and a tragedy. It's brilliant.
My only problem with that is why make the first season all about the Lulz and now it's taking this darker tone? I got into it because I literally watched the first season (only six episodes) at least ten times ans couldn't stop laughing. Now with this season it's "meh".
