Lupe Fiasco - Friend of the People (11/24)

    New single dropped. LightWork.

I really like dubstep and I like Lupe, but this shit is meh. It feels unnecessary because the "original" song was strong enough on its own and since Lupe went really light he took away more than it added.

Would have been one of the best songs on LASERS. That doesn't make it good.

Lupe can still go, but he's still enamored with that wack ass LASERS sound....

So far I've heard nothing but negative comments about this tape. Does it really sound like LASERS instrumentals, SHOGUN?

I'll give it a few spins this weekend.

Most of the songs are over electro and dubstep. SLR and Joaquin Phoenix are the only songs that really feel like rap, but they are older releases. Apparently Lupe made this tape in only two days and it sounds like it. Not surprised by the negativity at all.

If you're expecting Enemy of the State Pt. 2, prepare to be sorely disappointed. I will say that Lupe actually put in some solid effort in terms of rapping on the new shit, but the beat selection makes it a tough sell.

I'll still give it some spins even with the criticism. And as a lot know on here, I'm not a Lupe fan whatsoever and the main problem with this (production) has been my main problem with Lupe as an artist, period.

I love that he used M83. M83 is one of my favorite artists at the moment. Saw them in Asheville.

here's a little review for this mixtape. Not a lot to read, just a score, little points on certain tracks, and then a summary.

Not sure how I feel about rapping over EDM.

"After his brother died and he said nobody cared. Well I still do. After all these years. Because he shoulda played ball, he aint deserve none of that at all. These are just an illustration, of a few scenes that helped raise a generation."

Now that was pretty fucking good. In fact great. Maybe i like it more and understand everything cuz i am what hes talking about in the song.

All of those movies had impacts. And every time he started a verse saying remember when....It was like a flashback. Yes i specifically remember her getting rocked in the mail truck in Poetic Justice. Yes I remember walking around after South Central came out talkin bout OG Bobby Johnson.

I think its a very very very good.

Too many people looking for hooks and shit. That is the kind of shit that held up LASERS initially. Instead of listening to the lyrics(which are usually incredibly deep) where is all of the content in Lupe's style
