Cee Lo Green: Still real or jumped the shark?

Cee Lo was once a real bad motherfucker.

The man shot up the ranks real quick after the Soul Food album. I dug some of his solo work early on, he didn't reinvent the wheel or anything, but I dug it for a bit.

His work with Danger Mouse as Gnarls yielded strong results.

But now, this dude has the full court press on...he's every where...

Has the world had enough Cee Lo, or, is there room for more Cee Lo not only creatively, but as an entertainer before its overkill?

    Discuss.

I thought "Fuck You" sucked, never understood all the praise it was getting here at VSN. The album was bad also.

That album's great, play-ability almost all the way through. Fuck You wasnt even near the strongest work.

This is my thing, because I don't know where I stand...

Goodie was strong work by all involved. Loved Soul Food and Still Standing was strong.

His first few solo projects were good, albeit, like I said, nothing that reinvented the wheel.

Gnarls was good work creatively and had great commercial success.

His latest album...I didn't dig so much and damn it, Fuck You was so overplayed it makes my ears bleed...now, couple with that, he's everywhere doing his best GaGa rip off (who ripped it herself, fwiw) rocking ridiculous outfits ... and not just the old school dashiki he rocked during the Goodie Days...I see this fool out there with his big self in full Spartan get up. I feel he's at the point where he can take all of this commercial success and really go big, or he is 5 minutes away from performing his shtick at a state fair.

I dunno...dude is talented for sure...just unsure where I see him at this point.

Well that spartan outfit which I had to google, was a little over the top. But he also wore some odd outfits in Gnarls Barkley.

As far as the selling out thing I think you're getting at, I don't really mind. Think about how long he's been "good" and not have any real popular recognition or fame, now he's becoming a house hold name. Also it's not like he did his own thing for just a year or two and immediately jumped on the fame wagon. He's been putting his work in for years and now that he finally has the chance to make some real easy money he's taking it. For instance that dumb Sprite commercial I always see him in.

But as far as music goes, he's only done 1 solo album post Gnarls Barkley. Still to early to really judge yet.

Cee Lo is a fucking legend. Guy is still dope, and there's nothing wrong with him getting mainstream recognition after 20 years in the game and being a part of three major acts.

For those of you who didn't dig the album, why not? Not even talking about Fuck You or Bright Lights, Bigger City. I liked the soul vibe that many of the other tracks had.
