    Your thoughts on 2011 music.

Did this last year, bringing it back again.

2011's ending, so in order to get some more discussion in here, let's see what everyone's thoughts about the year in music. The question can apply to every genre, not just one specific.

Questions are just based on this year, not throughout a career.

Favorite artist/band: Probably would have to be Big KRIT right now. I really love every song he has put out so far.

Most surprising artist/band: I'll go with ASAP Rocky here. Purple Swag came out of no where and didn't even really get any hype at first. Then he started to get more popular and finished off the year with his mixtape that was just great. Didn't expect him to be much and he is blowing up.

Most disappointing artist/band: Lupe Fiasco. How hard has this guy fell off? He used to be one of my favorite artists and then he went and dropped Lasers. I couldn't even finish that album. I just really expected him to continue his success, oh well.

Artist/band that grew on you: LMFAO. They continue to put out fun music to dance to. At first I thought they were just a fad with Shots but they are really growing on me. It's not great music but it's fun and I'm really enjoying it.

Artist/band you can't see the hype about: Childish Gambino. Dude is mad lame.

Favorite album: Section.80, I mean what is not to love about this album? Great beats, Kendrick's amazing flow and lyricism? Just a very well put together album.

Most surprising album: Random Axe. Honestly I didn't ever really listen to Guilty Simpson, Sean Price or Black Milk enough to really call myself a fan. When I heard this I was just taken away by how awesome it was. Really solid album and it branched me out to listen to other music by these artists.

Most disappointing album: Goblin. Tyler the Creator was coming off so much hype after the Yonkers video and the whole Odd Future movement and I was expecting so much from this album. This to me was some of the worst music he put out and then starting losing his hype afterwards. He could of really did something special with this album and I think he failed.

Favorite song: Niggas in Paris. Nuff said

Favorite artist/band: The Weeknd (I originally had Frank Ocean and K.R.I.T. with Abel here, but Echoes of Silence put him over the top. Three incredible projects in one year is something rare today.)
Most surprising artist/band: Drake (Thank Me Later grew on me at the beginning of the year, then the songs and features leading up to Take Care were great with carried into the actual excellent album.)
Most disappointing artist/band: Wiz Khalifa, Mac Miller (Both had solid-good projects in 2010 [Kush & Orange Juice and K.I.D.S.] but they went completely in the pop direction for 2011 with horrendous results. Plus everyone picked Lupe and I wanted to be different from everyone else.)
Artist/band that grew on you: Stalley (Really arrived on my radar when Lincoln Way Nights dropped and it was a dead period in music. It was one of the better mix-tapes of 2011. MMG needs to push him more instead of the guy I'll mention next.)
Artist/band you can't see the hype about: Meek Mill (His voice is annoying and the only verse I've liked of his was his one off Wale's "Ambition". Got two tracks into that Dreamchasers tape of his and turned it off.)
Favorite album: N/A @ this time.
Most surprising album: Follow Me Home - Jay Rock (solid listen from front to back), I'm Gay - Lil B (swag cook woop), King of Hearts - Lloyd (another solid listen from someone who I thought would fill their album with radio tracks)
Most disappointing album: Tha Carter IV - Lil' Wayne (he was on a solid hot streak with features and I thought there'd be a more focused effort after jail), Camp - Childish Gambino (the EP is a million times better), Rolling Papers - Wiz Khalifa (didn't expect it to be a pop album after the genius of Kush & OJ)
Favorite song: HiiiPower - Kendrick Lamar, Lost Ones - J. Cole, Club Paradise - Drake

                      2011 sucked for me.

Really only 4 or 5 albums tops that caught my eye.

Most surprising artist/band: J. Cole...Dude has so many haters, but Cole World was an incredible album
Most disappointing artist/band: Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa....Carter IV sucked asshole, and Wiz had a pretty quiet year coming off last year with Kush n OJ. RP wasnt good. Oh, and Lupe of course.
Artist/band that grew on you: Big Sean...not sure what it is about him, but I enjoy his music. Loved Finally Famous
Artist/band you can't see the hype about: Mac Miller.
Favorite album: Ill be posting a Top 10 as well, so wait and see.
Most surprising album: Thug Motivation 103 - Just came out, but I really like what Jeezy put out on this. Section .80 - might be my album of the year.
Most disappointing album: Rolling Papers...shit was ass cheeks
Favorite song: God this is a tough one...I have a lot. HiiiPower - Kendrick Lamar, Marvin's Room - Drake, Cole World - J. Cole, Crew Love - Drake ft. The Weeknd

Favorite artist/band: Benoit & Sergio. Perfect, glossy tech house. Every track and every 12" they've released this year has been incredible. One of my favorite new acts.

Most surprising artist/band: Handsome Furs. I love this band, but their latest full-length, Sound Kapital, flew under the radar. I didn't even hear the record until two months after its release and it was fantastic. Probably not that "surprising", but I'll put them here anyways.

Most disappointing artist/band: Childish Gambino. His earlier work showed promise, but I won't be sad if I never hear Donald Glover rap ever again in my life.

Artist/band that grew on you: Gang Gang Dance. I was never that enthralled by Saint Dymphna, which only had a few great tracks. Eye Contact, their 2011 LP, is simply stunning, but it requires a number of listens to wrap your head around. "Glass Jar" is outstanding, but requires great patience.

Artist/band you can't see the hype about: Skrillex. It's just terrible, terrible noise and no discernable rhythm. Anyone who isn't an epileptic can't call this dance music.

Favorite album: Kaputt by Destroyer. Perfect pacing, sound, and texture from beginning to end. Long live the saxophone.

Most surprising album: Hurry Up, We're Dreaming by M83. I expected more instrumental stuff, but Anthony Gonzalez blew the doors of my mind off their hinges.

Most disappointing album: Cape Dory by Tennis. Can't recall any other albums with as much hype that were as deflating as this. One sound all the way through. Not terrible by any means, but not the grand entrance I expected it to be.

Favorite song: A tie between "Repatriated" by Handsome Furs and "Baby I've Got the Death Rattle" by Los Campesinos!. Two excellent tracks.

Favorite artist/band: The Drums. I'm not a music expert but I just like the vibe I get from them.

Most surprising artist/band: None. I had no expectations for most of the "newer" (to me) bands that I started listening to this year because I had never heard them before.

Most disappointing artist/band: Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows. I understand that it wasn't going to be Chiodos V.2 but it was just nothing that I expected.

Artist/band that grew on you: City and Colour. I was a casual listener before I met my current girlfriend. She's obsessed and City and Colour have gone up to my number 4 overall artist on Last.fm.

Artist/band you can't see the hype about: A Day to Remember. I enjoy their music. I listen to it in the car, but once MTV started playing their music all the little girls and teeny boppers have taken up their music. I prefer their older, "harder" stuff over their new brand.

Favorite album: In the Pit of the Stomach by We Were Promised Jetpacks. No skips needed when playing this album.

Most surprising album: See most surprising artist above.

Most disappointing album: D.R.U.G.S. by Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows. For a debut album it just didn't sound how it should based on the previous bands some of these guys came from.

Favorite song: "Money" by The Drums. It's about wanting to buy nice things for the girl you like/love but you have no money. True story.
