Felicty Jones, I'm pretty sure you didn't like Bellflower but I did and Evan Glodell directed, wrote and starred in that movie. Elizabeth Olsen with Silent House and Martha Marcy May Marlene. Another movie you didn't enjoy. Jeff Nichols the director of Take Shelter, a movie you probably haven't seen. Jacob Wysocki of Terri was extremely solid. Joe Cornish and John Boyega for Attack the Block. Fantastic first films for them. Joel Courtney in Super 8.
All of them pretty much became known or somewhat this year.
My winner would have been Joe Cornish for Attack the BLock.Comment

Felecity Jones has been a real movie before.
Elizabeth Olsen I'm not a fan of as of now.
IMO "Shotgun Stories" from 2007 was big enough for Jeff Nichols not to be considered.
The other people I like, I'd still take Marling over them though. I'm more interested in seeing what she does in the future, then the rest.Comment

Being in a movie doesn't mean its your debut. Marling was in a bunch of uncredited shit before this year, but I guess you can say Felicity Jones small roles are significant enough to warrant being past her debut, but I'd def say it was her American debut.
With Joe Cornish, the dude took 12 million dollars and a bunch of unknown child actors and made something special. I can't imagine what he'd accomplish with much more. The key for him will be genre change and if he can get past it. I am in no way saying Marling was a bad choice because I liked her in Another Earth and realize she contributed a bunch to it.Comment

Favorite Actor of the Year
"Jessica Chastain"
The Gosling to my Buzzman
Ms. Chastain did a shit load of movies this year. The main four being (Clockwise from top left) The Help, Tree of Life, Take Shelter, and The Debt. Obviously she has an advantage over most others because of the amount of movies she was in. But even with that she showed some pretty good range with the characters she played. Also she gets bonus points because her characters were my favorites in nearly all of the movies.

I saw Fassbender in Xmen and Jane Eyre, but still haven't got around to "Shame" yet. I've been stalling because it doesn't look like my type of movie.Comment

While his Entourage partners Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson have found continued success at the network, first with a few seasons of How to Make it in America, and with Boardwalk Empire earning nominations left and right, Doug Ellin has now watched HBO pass on his latest two pilot projects. The most recent pilot from the producer that didn't get picked up was Da Brick. Deadline reports that the network decided not to go ahead with the drama loosely based on boxer Mike Tyson's formative years in New Jersey.
The script from John Ridley is said to have used the character Donnie, a troubled young black boxer, to explore what it's like to grow up in what we call 'post racial America.' The main reason I'm disappointed to see the Spike Lee directed project get passed up was missing the chance to see Attack the Block's John Boyega play the Tyson inspired Donnie. Oh well, perhaps now that he's free, HBO will pursue him for Muhammad Ali's Greatest Fight.Comment
