Not the best movie of the decade... But the best movie I've seen in 2013.Comment

By no stretch was it the best of 2013. The beginning had a lot of energy but after that the narrative started to slow down too much and by the end it was kind of just dragging along. Which is especially not good in a movie where everyone knows the ending already.
The bad pacing and seemingly unnecessary long run time do hurt it significantly, but that's all I can see anyone complaining about.Comment

It is a fantastic film...don't let anyone sell you on it being any different.
It is a film about slavery that doesn't pull any punches. What would you expect? Of course it is going to lay it on a little thick.Last edited by LiquidLarry2GhostWF; 11-21-2013, 06:45 PM.Comment

I think it benefits from a pretty weak BP field this year. People are actually talking about Gravity as having a shot.
My top 5 right now would be..
12 Years a Slave
Prisoners
Dallas Buyers Club
All is Lost
Fruitvale Station
I'm sure Saving Mr. Banks will get a huge Disney push but it's a notch below all of those.
I also firmly believe that Nebraska will knock Fruitvale off of my list once I'm lucky enough to have seen it.

I think DBC makes McConaughey a front runner for Best Actor though.

Oh yeah, Mud will not get recognized which is a god damn shame. Either way, McConaughey will ride DBC hard. Ejiofor is definitely his toughest competition but Redford/Hanks make me nervous. Academy loves those guys.Comment
