Channing Tatum confirmed as Gambit. Didn't read into the announcement, but I think it's for a standalone movie.

Nothing is certain, just that he's playing the character. The hope is to have him in X-Men: Apocalypse then give him his own movie.

I seriously hope this isn't true.

              Edgar Wright leaves Ant-Man.

              per /u/Neonxeon on reddit -
The word from people on the crew is Wright got booted for being REALLY behind schedule and being ineffective at righting the ship and getting it back on track. Production has been bleeding money for a month and Marvel got fed up with him and they lost their confidence in his ability to manage a production of this size.
              ______________________________________________

No official word of course. Wright has been trying to get this movie made for like 10 years and now this? That's really disappointing.

What an absolute boner killer. After seeing The World's End I was even more stoked for an Edgar Wright Marvel movie. This was supposed to be Wright's baby. Who takes over now?

                  Replacement should be announced soon.

I finally saw The Amazing Spiderman 2.

I've come to the conclusion that Superhero movies lose me. I like genre films that just happen to have Superheroes in them.

Batman Begins is a Kung Fu flick.
The Dark Knight is a heist film.
The Watchmen is a character study.
The good X-Men films are the ones that accentuate the X-Men as a metaphor for social issues.
Iron Man is a corruption flick, while also turning Tony Stark into a great character study.
The Winter Soldier is a paranoid political thriller.
The Avengers, for all intents and purposes, is your token buddy cop movie.

Superhero movies that simply stay superhero movies lose me really quickly, and that is what every Spiderman films seems to be. It just stays a superhero movie.

Maybe, with time, and seeing this series develop will make this addition to the series look better in hindsight, as this series is compounding this BIG MYSTERY...but as a stand alone...I was not feeling it at all. Its also confused as to what it wants to be. Is it like the Raimi films where its a comic book on the screen or is it a more reality based take. You have Curt Connors and Max Dillion being your token rogue origin story while you now have Rhino and the Green Goblin as some sort of reality based, using the totally cliche in a post-Nolan Batman World "prototype military technology"...just totally confused on what it wants to be.

Meanwhile, there are so many corny parts to The Amazing Spiderman 2, it takes me out of any mystery solving or attachment to the developing story.

                    Overall, thumbs down from me.

I still think the best medium for a live-action Spiderman is via the small screen. His story and his rogue gallery is tailor made for episodic television. Especially for what they are trying to do with this series here.

I think Sony just fucking sucks at making that franchises.

I also think having an all around good cast does wonders for a film. Its no surprise a comic book film that speaks to one genre is usually good because when it doesnt stick to that genre's traits, it mixes everything together and you're left with this gooey mess that is guaranteed to look visually good nowadays and passed off to the general public as the next big comic book blockbuster.

Great post, Larry. The Spiderman movies are so boring because they try to get away with simply being a superhero movie, while the rest have expanded beyond that into actual genres with superheroes in them. So true, I love it.

When you have Captain America: The Winter Soldier coming out a month ago and X-Men: Days of Future Past coming out this week, two films that, for films with superheroes in them, are deep as fuck, I don't understand how you, as a legit movie making company, invest in a product that doesn't stack up with the competition.

And considering The Amazing Spiderman 2 isn't on pace to match previous entries into the series, the GenPop might need a vacation from this universe...but they still have four movies in the tubes ready to go (The Amazing Spiderman 3 + 4, a Sinister Six movie, and a Venom movie)...so...lets hope these fuckin flicks start taking the material a little more seriously as they have no idea if they want to be fun or if they want to be a serious unraveling mystery.

Doctor Strange movie now has a director and they brought in the guy who wrote Prometheus to tweak the script. Director is the guy who did Sinister, Excorcism of Emily Rose, and The Day The Earth Stood Still. Saw that the short list for actors to play Stephen Strange is Benedict Cumberbatch (my pick) Tom Hardy, and Jared Leto.

Possible Hulk vs. Iron Man (with Hulkbusting armor) battle in Avengers 2:

Marvel, above all other studios, knows how to do Hall H right. Their panel, year after year, is the one that leaves fans’ jaws on floors. And they blew the roof off of Hall H last year with the simple reveal that the title of The Avengers 2 would be Age of Ultron.
