    Cloud Atlas

Wachowski brothers picture collabed with Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run). Based on the David Mitchell novel.

First trailer was released today, almost 6 minutes long. link

Looks to be REALLY ambitious. The reception for the trailer seems pretty high with praise, I'm not 100% on it yet.

They wrote/directed/produced maybe the defining science-fiction film of this generation. They have not maintained the level of quality obviously but they are still capable of making something great.

As far as the plot exactly I don't really know what's going on either, but I think this is the kind of film where it'd be better going in knowing less. The synopsis on wikipedia is:

"[It is] an epic story of humankind in which the actions and consequences of our lives impact one another throughout the past, present and future as one soul is shaped from a murderer into a savior and a single act of kindness ripples out for centuries to inspire a revolution."

      Talk about ambiguous lol...

They only hit on the Matrix because they had the book to work off of, once they had to come up with there own shit there true colors showed.

I thought The Matrix was an original screenplay? After a little digging it seems like it drew some inspiration from Neuromancer, but I can't find anything saying it's based on any book. They wrote and produced V for Vendetta which was a solid adaptation. And they are sharing writing and directing duties with Tykwer who plenty capable himself.

Usually anything ATB likes blows dick but any movie where Tom Hanks plows Halle Berry is fine in my book.

This looks epic. I'm in. And they're the Wachowski "siblings" now. Larry Wachowski is now Lana Wachowski.

The Matrix is almost a complete rip-off of "The Invisibles". Just search for it, it was a very good set of comics and its funny how much of it was ripped off by the Wachowski Bro... Sis... Siblings.

By the way, I sure do like that main bald guys circular glasses.

Also, I tried hard to look past your comment that V for Vendetta was a solid adaptation, but I couldn't. It was absolutely awful. They completely missed the whole point of the comic and instead made it into something about Bush, when really it was about the battle of anarchism and facism, the two extremes of government. Even if you don't mind the fact that they missed the point, the movie was made into an action movie and if you have ever read an Alan Moore comic, you'd know that they are hardly ever truly based on action and more about the central message.

I have to agree with Jeremy and Buzzman. The first matrix was a very good movie but the two sequels and Speed Racer were absolute hot garbage.

This movie looks intriguing and i'm a big Tom Hanks homer so I will give it a try.

I won't argue about the Matrix's originality, I was just confused with Buzzman saying it was based off "the book". I still think the film is one of the better achievements of action filmmaking in the past several years regardless.

As far as V for Vendetta I don't think its a faithful adaptation in by any means, but it certainly wasn't awful. There is never going to be an Alan Moore adaptation that retains the full depth of the source material. I guess the stylistic action-sequences are just too appealing to Hollywood in all cases for them to put marketability in the backseat for real thematic accuracy. That being said it was still more thought-provoking and political (even if it was heavily modernized) than the vast majority of any other action-focused blockbuster flicks, especially compared to any other Moore adaptations.

And I'm not arguing the Wachowski awkward sibling partnership is destined for greatness and that their bad movies aren't bad. Just that they have shown they are capable.

Looks like it might be too far out there for its own good.

Plenty of scenes from The Matrix were ripped straight from Ghost in the Shell.

Anyway just going by quality, I think Bound is the best movie they've done.

                              The Matrix is utter shite.
