Will Smith needs the future to sniff a career worthy of being mentioned in the same discussion as Tom Hanks.

To throw a big balled motherfucker atop all of these big bank but questionable quality fuckers...Daniel Day Lewis.

Guy is money and doesn't sacrifice a bit.

Doesn't do all these formulaic Hollywood blockbuster's though.

How so? His movies seem to do just fine.

Either way, he's definitely in the Oscar cred + Popularity class.

Pitt does his share of small movies that don't get a lot of push beyond word of mouth but when counted on to bring the money in bigger flicks, he usually does these days I think.

I know years ago he had some that weren't profitable. Fight Club did shit in the theaters and Spy Game came up short, too.

Almost all of Will Smith's movies are full on trash. I haven't seen all of his stuff, but the only movie I've enjoyed was Independence Day. In comparison the list of trash seems endless, Men in Black sequels, Wild Wild West, Hitch, i robot, Hancock, Seven Pounds...

Some of you are overly sensitive. That's all there is to it.

He's a very good actor. Is he going to be the biggest thing in hollywood in 5 years? I doubt it. I could be wrong, and I'd be shocked if he became the biggest name in Hollywood in the next 5 years, but I guess some of you think he will. I'm not going argue with you about it, I'm just going to tell you that we obviously have different opinion of the guys on screen presence.

And some of the posts in this thread are downright retarded - yes I'm looking at you palooza. Take this guys cock out of your mouth for one second because you sound like a fucking idiot trying to hard to prove to people how good of an actor he is.

Quit being such a little bitch about it.

I think the point is, nobody cares. There are great actors who never had that title.

Also the biggest thing in hollywood in 5 years is probably gonna be some 21 year old with a nice abs.

What? I'm not even defending JGL at this point - I'm talking about actors who do not have the well-rounded career like Tom Hanks does and how nobody will - JGL included.

This is what every actor should strive to be. Fuck blockbusters, fuck making money at the box-office. Just make good movies.

Same could be said of JGL for both Smith and Hanks.

Then what is exactly is your point and why are you trying to be the new DoubleDeuce?

There are plenty of really good actors in Hollywood. The OP asked if JGL is the next Hollywood star like Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt. I, personally, don't think so because we've been watching this kid act his entire life and he doesn't have the star power or presence to take over a movie by himself.

He's had some really good performances and has been in some good movies but he hasn't done anything that has come close to blowing me away for a number of reasons and I don't think he has the ability to do so because he hasn't yet and I've seen him play a number of different roles and characters.

He's simply not on the level of today's top stars.

JGL's movies were almost always vehicles for bigger stars (or people who were bigger stars at the time):

Angels in the Outfield: Danny Glover
                          Halloween H20: Jamie Lee Curtis
10 Things I Hate About You: Julia Stiles/Heath Ledger

... ok, first ones were a joke, now onto his critically acclaimed shit (note: I'm skipping 500 because I hated that movie)...

                          Inception: Leonardo DiCaprio
50/50: Lets face it, a lot of people saw this movie because Seth Rogan was in the trailers
                          TDKR: Christian Bale
                          Looper: Bruce Willis
                          Lincoln: Daniel Day Lewis

Like I said, he is a very good actor and has a bright future, but I cannot give the guy too much props when he is considered the supporting actor in nearly every movie and isn't quite a "headliner" yet. I would say he has very little to no drawing power for the average movie goer, even if he does make a movie better (the exception being GI Joe, that movie sucked).

The Incredible Hulk had a $150,000,000 budget and grossed $130,000,000 in the US. That is awful and if you watch the movie, you'll know why it grossed so little. Red Dragon had a $78,000,000 budget and grossed $93,000,000 in US and Canada. Silence of the Lambs had a $13,000,000 budget and grossed $130,000,000. Hannibal had a $87,000,000 budget and grossed $165,000,000. In comparison to the other two movies of the trilogy, it was easily the worst in draw and in execution. I love Edward Norton, he is a tremendous actor, but he does have flops and doesn't have much drawing power, IMO.

I don't think anyone dislikes JGL, just taking issue with stuff like Inception and Dark Knight Rises being listed as part of his "run" of movies, as if he directly impacted the success of either film.

Recently, the movies in which he has had a secondary role have been well received and hugely popular and the ones in which he has had a primary role have been generally well received but only moderately popular.

                            That is an "amazing run"?

Would you guys say thatTom Hardy has a serious leg up on JGL in terms of star power at this point? At this point the only full-release films that he's headlined have been TDKR and "This Means War". He seems to fit the typical Hollywood star more looks-wise, but is the typical stupid American going to see a movie because he's in it? Right now his only performances in the near future are Lawless and a Mad Max sequel (apparently).

If people didnt flock to Warrior, they certainly aren't going to flock to his future films.
